Im thinking about going to the one in Philly, but it's going to be so ridiculously crowded. I wish philadelphia's line-up was as sweet as london's but it is not that bad. Dave Matthews, Linkin Park, Jay-z, Bon Jovi, Will Smith, Destiny's Child, Maroon 5, Sarah Maclachlan, Stevie Wonder. Its a shame 50 cent dropped out. There's also rumor Michael Jackson may be playing Philly's show. That would be interesting.

Have fun! (I'm sure you will, it's the concert of the century)

Nor me... although there are benefits to watching it at home with mates. Colder better beer, BBQ food, cleaner toilets and the ability to change channels when they start the political posturing or David Beckham comes onstage. ;)

Im going to the one in Philly.

Looking forward to it.

As to Jacko performing, I highly doubt that. Besides, who wants to see another white chick dance around on stage?

Anyway, have any idea what time the festivities will be starting?

I'm not a Jacko fan either but I still think it would be cool if he played. It would probably be a good set as long as crowd reaction isn't too bad. Im sure the concert director and whatnot will make the call about that since its still close to the court hearing and all.

As for when it starts, I dont have a clue in the world. I'd imagine there will be more news on it in the upcoming days, but to get anywhere close to the stage you would most likely have to show up a day early and camp. lol.

yup, my mum shouted me down "Bill gates is on BBC2"... gotta say for the worlds richest man hes quite realistic. if i was a near trillionaire id fly on stage using some alien technology (an iMac?) wearing nothing but solid gold clothes encrusted with his trusted Pentium M chips.

just glad nothing crashed whilst he was up on stage

I was thinking if I was standing infront of him I'd have pulled my ipod out of my pocket, and chucked it at his head!! Can see the headlines tomorrow... "Gates struck by iPod"...

Jonathon Ross (on BBC TV) just said "...but he didn't explain why windows keeps crashing..." :D

For some reason, during his 'speech', I kept getting flashbacks to The Muppets. Was it just me, or did he bear an uncanny resemblance, in both voice and appearance, to Kermit The Frog?

Crazy.

Stop the 'Gates bashing' you morons he has done a fantastic amount for Africa and you guys reducing it to petty remarks because he owns a different IT company is just sad and pathetic and denigrates and devalues the good work that he has done. Grow up and get a life, this event is about so much more than Apple versus Microsoft.

He really did remind me of Kermit though :)

The money Gates gives(tax deductible) is a drop in the ocean.Capitalists have been stealing from Africa for 300 years(including people) Gates is part of the problem not part of the solution.

Exactly. I can't believe a man of such high philanthropic stature received such a lukewarm response from that crowd.

... I'm sure he'd have gotten a much better reception had he sung a couple of verses of 'Rainbow Connection' :p

No, the Gates bashing is happening because Microsoft try to sell overpriced software to people who can't afford it, and then goes after them when they pirate it. Microsoft also censors users (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4088702.stm) at the behest of dictatorial governments. Not to mention the anticompetitive trade practices, if you want to keep in the vein of Live8 - trade being one of the links to "Make Poverty History".
I'm not going, nor do I want to. My g/f is watching but the sight of all these middle aged millionaires telling us to relieve poverty is faintly nauseating :(
And is it me or were Travis awful?

Without getting too political, I think that the amount of money Bill Gates contributes is irrelevant. The fact that he is actually doing something is what really counts. Wealth has brought him fame, and people will always follow in the footsteps of the people to whom they look up to (and let's face it, most people believe that he invented computers - they're going to look up to the guy because he's rich, how he made his money is inconsequential to anyone who doesn't know better). So, whether his motives are selfish or not, he's still showing average people that this is a cause that's worth contributing to.

But, on to more important matters, can anyone else believe how atrocious Elton John's rendition of Children Of The Revolution was!?!?

Africa doesn't want or need charity it wants and deserves Justice.
Generally speaking I agree with the comment about aging millionaires, pretty much a big media wankfest.Though Annie Lennox just knocked them dead.

Oh, believe me, I totally agree - I think the whole concept behind this Make Poverty History campaign is ingenious. All I'm saying is that everyday people need figureheads to show them what to do, and, when a guy who's name is synonymous with fortune is flashed on to 2 billion peoples' TV screens as an example of someone who's trying to make a difference, it's sure to encourage a significant percentage of those viewers to go to www.live8live.com and sign their name... and surely that can only be a good thing?

Yeah you're so right....what was I thinking.....his donations are only directly responsible so far for the vaccinations of more than 10 million children, preventing more than 100,000 premature deaths....god i'm such a tool for thinking that he does good work. I was forgetting all of the great charity work that you guys do and the countless trips that you take to developing nations to try and make a difference. Gates is such a selfish tool for only donating such a small chunk of his fortune and trying to make the world a better place to live in!

The Gates foundation is a major investor in three large Pharmaceutical companies, the holders of the rights to produce the vaccinations, they are doing everything in their power to prevent African countries producing thier own versions,Gates is a big supporter of this.Same with HIV drugs,40% of Natal is dying because they are being stopped from accessing these life saving drugs. The western(and some other)companies are spending billions trying to extend "intellectual property rights" for profit, whilst Africans and others die for want of basic medicine.I don't know how Gates sleeps,as to my charitable works I don't have any but then again I haven't stolen billions to be able to trickle a little bit back to salve my conscience, even more important I do very little damage to the exploited people of the world.
PS a lot of these "inventions" were stolen see Windows Asprin et al as Newton said "we are dwarves standing on the shoulders of giants" an incremental advance in science should not enable the people responsible to rake in money through to 3 or 4 generations the wise writers othe U.S. constitution said 14 years I believe. The even wiser French revolutionists merely abolished any intellectual property rights.

Sadly couldn't go, don't have a mobile and don't know how to use one anyway so the universe was obviously telling me to enjoy it from the comfort of my bedroom. I've loved the whole event! Busy enjoying The Who rocking out on stage, Pete Townend is soooooo cool when he plays guitar. I've enjoyed the majority of the acts, Travis, Keane, Coldplay, Stereophonics, U2 all my highlights. Can't wait for Pink Floyd and Paul MaCartney!!!

Anyone here think that the TV report was horrible? I mean, I sat all day, waiting for some bands to show up on tv, but nothing. They kept repeating a few acts again and again, and most of the acts shown were from philadelphia and london. I didn't see Annie Lennox play..did any of you? (If she did, I must have gone for a quick break but I didn't see her) and I wanted to see bryan adams, a-ha,etc. Was annoying to see simple plan and good charlotte being given so much importance!!

I've realised today how much like the average british 40-year old dad i am... (I'm 19)

Thoughts like "oh, the scissor sisters are gay now?" come to mind along with "Velvet Revolver?"... also, "Wow, Pink Floyd are one of my favourate bands..."

I'm just gutted I went to mo-foing IKEA instead of sitting home to see The Who and Pink Floyd... Luckily caught Pink Floyd on the radio driving home, but sitting up late to watch the re-run!!

Pink Floyd is simply the greatest band ever (IMnotsoHO). And their performance was great! Can't believe the subtlety David Gilmour puts in his guitar play, and how much of a genious Roger Waters is. Those 2 are the perfect combination, I hope they'll do another album. I'd really pay 1000 euros to see them perform live for a full multimedia filled quadraphonic show.
I saw them about 10 years ago (of course without Roger Waters), I thought it was Pulse, best thing I've ever seen/heard.

I heard them in the car, on Radio 1 as they were performing and found myself singing along! When I saw the repeat on TV later I realised they were really showing their age, but also fantastic. I would love them to do more - but I gather there are personal problems within the band...

“Like most people I want to do everything I can to persuade the G8 leaders to make huge commitments to the relief of poverty and increased aid to the third world. It’s crazy that America gives such a paltry percentage of its GNP to the starving nations. Any squabbles Roger and the band have had in the past are so petty in this context, and if re-forming for this concert will help focus attention then it’s got to be worthwhile.”

I waited all day to see a-ha, ... Just be glad you didn't see a-ha... Morten Harket had MAJOR monitor problems their whole performance was consequently ruined... I guess that's the reason why BBC just showed "Take on Me", which was torture to watch (or rather listen to...) :(
