If you see any of the Belkin Snap Shields in stores on launch day please let me know. I'll be stuck at the office waiting on UPS to deliver my iPad... I'm really wanting one of these.

I bought the "ipad 2" version at Target the other day...identical design but we'll see if it actually fits.

My other brand snap case made for iPad 2 fits my new iPad, so it's encouraging that your Berlin may as well!

A coworker of mine told me there were some at a Verizon store near me. I don't know if they are really for the new iPad or if they have just out stickers on the old cases at Verizon.

Bought the Ipad 2 Belkin snap shield today and it fits perfectly on my new iPad (3rd gen). I posted some pics in the Incipio smart feather thread, go take a look.

Just swung by Target and got the snapshield for iPad 2...and like the other posters have said, it works fine on my iPad 3. It's a little tight but fits.

Purchased an iPad 2 snap shield secure today, fits my third gen just fine. It looks a little snug on the camera front but doesn't affect it.

Nice!
Does it lock on the back nicely? No unconfortableness with 2 hands on the back while the smart cover locks and rests there?
could you shoot a bit video and show the upside of the ipad when the smart cover is behind?(i want to see if and how much the smart cover sticks out of the ipad) without a case its about .5cm here.

Also does it fit the new ipad well or is it a kinda weird solution?(meaning can it fall out of the case or something)

Thanks!

The case has a nice grip. It's not glossy plastic where it'll easily slip out of your hands. It feels a little flushed. If I press on the back it moves a little bit. Nothing major though.

I would say between slippery and a grip:(

Locks on the back very tightly ( impressed me). It fits the new iPad very well and does't look weird at all. Will post a picture of the upside of the iPad with the smart cover folded all the way back in a bit. You will see the cover doesn't show at all.

Remember there's two versions:
Without magnet: http://www.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=650033
With magnet: http://www.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=598150

These are available off Amazon April 1st. Note that it is specified as for "3rd generation" iPad, not iPad 2.

Thanks for letting us know on this.

I went to my local Fry's and picked up a clear Snap Shield Secure (unfortunately, for MSRP $35, but that's the instant gratification tax).

Definitely pricier than the generic ones online, but I have a 30 day return policy if the New iPad ones come out quickly, and I love the retention strip for the Smart Cover magnet.

Re: fit, I tried on my iPad 2 to get an ideal, then on my New iPad.

It's harder to snap in on the New iPad, though secure when you get there.

There is -very- slightly more bowing in the back (a fraction of a millimeter), which is only obvious when you look at the Apple logo/text on the back and press down--it gets slightly clearer.

In regular use I don't notice that at all. It doesn't creak, and the gap is so subtle that I can only -barely- feel it in the center, and not at all on the outer 2/3 of the device where your hands always go. On an opaque Shield, I don't think you'd realize there's a fit difference.

Also, I use the word "more" deliberately. The Shield bowed very slightly on my iPad 2 as well, though I don't think quite as much. I'd be willing to believe the amount of bowing on here would be within manufacturer tolerance even for a Shield used on the intended unit.

The ports are still all centered as far as I can tell. The camera looks a hair higher in the circle, but it's small enough that I'm not actually sure that it is. It's definitely not obscured.

I'll put it this way: it's good enough that I may or may not go to one fitted "correctly" when they come out. The only reason to would be if the extra thickness overstresses the snap-on lips. Otherwise the benefit would be minimal.

Edit: One last-minute observation. The bowing does make the top center edge of the Shield lift very slightly away from the tablet (again, fraction of a millimeter).

This has a couple of effects: the primary is to make the sleep button a little harder to hit; OTOH, if you have a smart cover, you never end up using that button.

The other worries me slightly more; there's a little gap beneath the cutout around the microphone, and dirt could get in there. So that would be the argument for finding an iPad 2-wielding friend and swapping this out later. I think I'll have an idea in a week or two whether it's really getting anything in there or not though.

For all you worried about this case, just try out for yourself if you happen to see it at your local Target or Best Buy. You can always return it and get a refund. I'm satisfied with it. Just take it for a test drive. :)

Plastic won't generally scratch aluminum. Just clean the device and inside of the case off with a microfiber cloth so you don't trap dust.

I picked one of these up at Target yesterday and like everyone has said before me, it actually fits the new ipad well. However, it was a VERY tight fit and there is no way to actually remove this case without cracking it in the corners, which is what just happened to me. I would recommend holding off until the new version comes out...

Also just bought the SnapShield Secure (smoke color) for the iPad 2 from Target.

Both the regular SnapShield and SnapShield Secure are on sale for $19.99; I ended up choosing the SnapShield Secure because its camera hole was bigger.

The new iPad snaps into it fine, but given AppleOwl's post, I am not taking the case off!

To answer obnoxious, yes, the power button is super close to the top of the opening. Not a big deal for me. :)

If i have to remove it someday then so be it, let it break.
I cant go everywhere with a naked ipad and want something that holds the smart cover on the back.

Did one of you guys remove the case without breaking?^^

Both of them should work fine: I have ordered the Smart Feather because it ships with the Apple smart cover hinge-locking mechanism, a plus IMHO :)

Another satisfied Belkin user. I bought the clear rear cover to use with a dark gray smart cover. As others have said, it fits securely and makes for a nice slim package. My only observation is that the volume toggle switch is a little difficult to get used to, but still very manageable.

I am very satisfied, given the strong desire I had to protect the rear of my iPad 3

I bought fro Best Buy for $29.

Can you explain a bit further what that hinge-locking mechanism does? What are the advantages of it compared to without?

Plastic curves over the Smart Cover hinge bar so it can't detach. You have to take off the Smart Feather before taking off the Smart Cover.

For people with weak magnets or who otherwise experience a lot of unintentional cover detaches, I can see the advantage. Personally, I can wave my iPad around by the Smart Cover so for me it'd be a disadvantage against versatility.
