just a note, there is no 1.86 ghz i5 for the macbook air. the i5 is 1.6 ghz, and the i7 is 1.8 ghz.

Changed it as you are correct.

without knowing too much of your computing setup and routine, i'd say just stick with the new ipad. i mean, you must have bought it for a reason, right?

Sounds like someone wanted an iPad but didn't order in time and is willing to sacrifice to get one. I'd do that trade in a minute. Apple will have more iPads in a week or so and you'll have an Air to sell, buy another iPad and pocket some cash.

I agree, you could definitely sell the Air, buy another iPad and have some extra profit on top of the extra $100 he is giving you.

Seems like a win unless you require the iPad right this minute.

he's not getting $100, he's paying it.

Err.. misread that. Well then scratch my previous post. Not such a good deal.

It does not seem like you need it. I'd stick with the iPad3.

Think of it this way. The lower end 11" Air you're being offered retails for 1k. Given that its absolutely perfect in condition, you MIGHT be able to sell it for around 700 with a bit of sweat and blood.

At most, you're profiting around $70 from this transaction ~ but you're left with a device that you did not originally want, and something you likely wouldn't have a specific use for (you have your mini afterall, supplemented by an iPad).

If you end up deciding that you don't even like the 11" Air, you'll have to waste time and effort to sell it ~ since the demand is no longer there.

If you didn't like the iPad 3, you'd sell it in a heartbeat with minimal loss.

Save yourself the trouble.

+1. also, if you don't like it, you can return it for no loss.

I should have been more specific. I am getting two. One was to sell, but then this deal happened. So I will still have one. Different thoughts now??

In this case:
It is a great deal because the MBA is $999 + tax and yours is $500 + tax and even after that $100 you pay you still have a product that is $400 more than the iPad, go for it before he changes his mind, enjoy your MBA!

Yes, but MBA can be ordered for $70 off and no tax on amazon or macmall, and it is not easy to get a discount on an iPad this near launch.

Well, the base 11" Air that you are referring to is $999 and a MILLION times more useful than an iPad. So as long as you aren't being scammed I would say that is a GREAT deal! The new iPad is still just an iPad...the MBA is a MAC! And its the same size as the iPad. I have an iPad and a MBA and I barely touch my iPad since I got the MBA.

I'm not really a fan of the 11" MBA - IF you can end up with the new iPad and the Air then you should go for it. I'd rather have the iPad though

He stated he bought one for himself and one to sell, so if he buys this Air he will have both MBA and an iPad, I would strongly advise him to get it! :D:cool:

I would not do that.

Why do you say that...its $850 as a refurb from :apple: and he got it for $600 (with the new iPad and $100 cash)... So he at least saved $250...

1: because many owners of iPad 3 are selling them for about $1,000 on ebay/Amazon

and

2: there are new MBA coming out soon!.

Point 2 may be valid, but point 1 is invalid because I can at this time walk into my local Apple Store and Best Buy and buy any version of this The New Ipad I want.

Dude, are you crazy its a terrible deal, don't you know that using Macbook Airs with the Core processors has been proven to directly cause testicular cancer, breast cancer, endometriosis, and all kinds of other diseases of the sexual organs within 1 week. Ill tell you what, since I'm a nice guy, ill let you give it to me and ill give you a new iPad, you can just owe me favor or something right, no big deal, what are friends for.

Resale value on MBA will be way higher than any iPad.
Check ebay - the base 11.6 MBA from 2010 (2GB RAM, 64 SSD, 1.4 core2duo) in mint condition are going for well over $700.00. iPads will drop in price quicker.

Decide if you want an ipad or a mba first and foremost.
But since this is an opinion thread, I don't see how anyone could be more productive on an ipad than a mba.
So if anyone cares about efficiency, go for a mba.
you can't beat a keyboard.
And most of the time, I want to stand an ipad up rather than just hold it in my hands. That basically makes the ipad into the form factor of a laptop, which the 11" mba is just about the lightes on you can buy.
I never understood the fascination with tablets as a serious tool. As serious fun, yes, but not as true productivity tool.
For programmers, there is no argument that can be made. But even for "regular" non-power users, I don't see why people would rather type a class paper or email on an ipad than on a mba. Why people would rather watch a movie on an ipad than a mba. Why people would rather mess around with an itunes library on an ipad vs a mba. I can understand why people would rather read the NYTimes on an ipad or play a video game.
