Hi, all. I picked up a MBA at a garage sale for $10.:eek::eek:
I got this from powerbookmedic.com by checking the serial number:

But it wouldn't boot up. So I got it to boot up with a USB install stick , but was shocked to find there is no hard drive installed. NONE. But for $10, who is bitching? LOL

So, I have the hard drive caddy, the bracket and the rubber insert and the flex cable. I pulled a DERP and bought a 120GB 1.8" SATA drive but as most of you know, that isn't gonna work. (oh, well)

So I'm trying to figure out what to put in this thing. Is a LIF PATA and a ZIF PATA the same thing? Will a Samsung MK1224GAH hard drive work?

Or this Samsung MK1224GAL?

I appreciate any help you all might offer. Thanks!

Michael

Wow for $10 that's great! I suggest putting an SSD in there, they are much slower without SSDs besides you can get a 60GB SSD from OWC for your MBA for $160 so then you have a Mac for $170

Congrats on the Mac!
Oh, by the way, did you get a box and charger as well? if you did they could have sold the charger alone for atleast $40 :D

I did indeed get the box and charger and adapter and everything else including discs. It was a good deal, no?

Don't want to go to SSD, trying the PATA drive route (cheapskate). Help?

Thanks. I ended up picking up a 120GB MK1321GAL drive for about $80. Hope that it fits. I'll post back and let you all know.

I love Apple

...and the drive worked perfectly.

...and the best part of this? The broken hinges that it had were COVERED under an extended warranty by Apple. Dropped it off at an Apple store on Friday, got it back on Tuesday. They replaced the hinges, the hinge clutches, the hinge cover, the video cable, the antenna and the camera cable. FOR FREE.

So, I have a first-gen MacBook Air, running Lion on a 120 GB hard drive for about $95 ($10 for the buy and $80+ for the hard drive). LOL!

Thanks for your advice, all. Back to lurking.
