Im am going to buy an ibook to use for ms office, msn messenger, internet, email and itunes/ipod. How much memory should i need to be able to carry out those functions, i probably wont have them all programes open at the same time. And I have a 40gig ipod photo so would a 60gig HD, 20gig for programmes, be big enough?
Cheers

Just adding a 512MB should be fine. I think you might also get buy with 256MB, but it's not a big enough savings to chance. So I say 512MB more (768MB total).

As far as the HD, I think 60 GB is enough. I don't recall the space of just the OS, but I don't think it's more than 20GB (if it is, it's not by much).

I think adding 512mb RAM would be good to bring the total to 768mb. But I would suggest going for the 80GB HD. It is only $50 more and its always good to have extra space.

When I bought my Powerbook I thought I would never run out of space with 80GB but the next thing I know I'm out getting an external harddrive. Unless you're strapped for cash, I recommend shelling out the extra 50 and having the extra space.

Get as much RAM and HD as you can, for basic mac use 512 is enough. I ran out of space often, i download lots of movies (legally, and i dont mean porn or riped DVD's) and rip my dvd's so i need the extra space. I have 20GB ipod that i use for backup aswell as a 100GB portable HD. It all depends on how you will use your mac, i for one need lots of space :)
