Does anyone know what the case is that the apple store employees use? The one that swipes credit cards? I am looking into alternatives to the square "dongle" which reviews have said is fairly flimsy... Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I don't know what they use in the Apple stores, I always thought it was proprietary.

Mophie does make this: http://www.mophie.com/Marketplace-iPhone-Mobile-Payment-Strip-Reader-p/1170_mp-ip4-blk.htm

Paypal has a new product coming out soon that plugs into the headphone jack as well.

I use square all the time and have NEVER had an issue. Flimsy compared to what? All the other cc options made for the iPhone? If people are to stupid to properly use an item that is very easy to use that shouldn't be a knock on the product.

For the product challanged, the Mophie solution looks like a good option.

Thanks for all the input. That mophie case looks interesting, but it's good to know that the square card reader is working well for some. I guess it's free too, so probably no risk in trying it out before spending $80 on a case.

Wow, a little defensive?

@OP, the in store solution is the Linea-Pro. The one Apple uses is a iPod touch only solution, but I believe newer model support iPhones these days.

I have friends who run lunch catering trucks and they use square a whole lot.

Not many issues and if the square breaks, they replace it for free. Really not worried too much on the reliability though, my friends get about 50-60 swipes a day and they are still on their first one after 6 months.

Its a great case for a business but the price really should be lower. :apple:

we use the Square and have never had a problem, definitely does not feel flimsy at all.

Actually the one I posted is the one they use. At least where I am located at. Also if you read to the bottom of the page that I posted you will also notice that it specifically states that Apple and Barnes & Noble use it at there retail stores.
