Can airplay speakers run off an adhoc wireless network?

I'd be taking a Macbook Air (July/11), iPad 3 and Airplay speakers, either camping, to a friend's cabin, or in a motorhome this summer. I would love yo be able to wirelessly stream my iPad music to Airplay speakers. Is this workable, and has anyone done this?
