Hoping someone who's ripped both NTSC and PAL standard-definition DVDs can tell me if they notice much of a difference when playing them on Apple TV, iPad etc?

Being in Australia, most of my collection is in the higher-resolution PAL, but I have quite a few titles in NTSC and I was wondering if it's worth my while "upgrading" them to PAL?

They're mainly old sitcoms and SF series.

ADDENDUM: If a show is made in the US, is it most likely PAL DVDs are upconverted from NTSC masters anyway?

From my fairly limited collection of NTSC DVDs (I have mostly PAL), PAL looks very slightly better, but it's not really noticeable on playback.

You do have a frame rate conversion for NTSC->PAL (often it's just run ~4% faster), so the NTSC version is arguable closer to the original, even though it has a lower resolution.

Overall, they are basically equivalent.

Thanks for that, I'm coming round to the notion that if the original source material was in NTSC (which is true for me in most cases) I shouldn't be losing out with my NTSC versions.
