I just saw that there is a Roku player that has a USB port. Is it possible to play iTunes content (purchased music and movies/TV shows) through the Roku via an external hard drive?

No (legally), Roku can play .mp4 or m4v (and some private channels support ACC playback) however it cannot decoded iTunes DRM, you need an "Authorized" device to play itunes' content.

* There are works around that cannot be dicuss on this forums, google is your friend (actually Roku forums have ton of info on that)
