I was wondering if there was any software to optimize videos, like what you can download from torrents? Stuff encoded into DVIX, etc.

MPEG Streamclip (http://www.squared5.com/)

Maybe these guides can help a bit, as the same principles apply:
Get footage from a video DVD into an editing application (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=812985&highlight=)
Video: Transcoding ripped video to a format iMovie understands (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10644330/MR_Image_Hotlinks/MR_screenshots/MR_VTs/MR_VT_DVD-iMovie_2_MSC.mp4) (.mp4, 75s, 7MB)

But know, that those torrented videos use different resolutions, almost always smaller, than proper video. Depending on what editing application you use, it might look distorted.
