Partial calendar dropdown from top of screen

Hi All,
I searched the iPad User Guide and couldn't find anything on this.

In any screen (Safari or email), when I swipe my finger down from the very top of the display, I get a small dropdown window that displays a partial (very few) list of my calendar appointments. Is this a bug or a feature? If feature, why partial in only showing a couple calendar events?

Any info. appreciated.
