View Full Version : Games YOU would like to see

This is just for all you fantasy fools who want to share your ideas. I thought another thread was discussing this, but I was mislead by the title, it was something else. Post what you think would be good ideas for a game (Mac, PC, console....I'm looking for games not platform).

One of my personal favorites I have wanted for a long time:
Take the game "Hitman" or the newer ones, whatever and combine it with the graphics engine of "Splinter Cell" and allow full game manipulation and real-world enviroments, active adaptation and a no-boundaries world. Throw in a mix similar to GTA and you have an AWESOME gun-for-hire type game, I think it would be sweet. I prefer the visual angle and graphics style of Splinter Cell to that of Hitman....

Unreal 3 Engine with the unreal 1 kind of adventure.

I think that today's games lack the storyline and gameplay of the older ones...

Also, I would like to see Kurushi (a thinking game for PSX) coming out for the macintosh...

An extremely huge Forgotten Realms MMORPG that will never happen. Unlike games like WoW, that have you traveling the entire world on some epic quest, I'd like to see your starting region be pretty much a complete game all by itself, and only very powerful or adventurous characters could travel the world to find hundreds of hidden dungeons, shrines, treasures, etc.

MMORPGs these days all seem to try to make a big world seem small... I think the secret to a great game is to make the small seem big.. while still having a big world floating out there able to be discovered.
The problem with this, is it would require an unprecedented amount of man hours to create. Each region would need hundreds of NPCs with unique quests and buildings etc.

As for traveling, it would be necessary that to preserve realism and discourage every little level 1 character from seeing the whole world to make conventional traveling take days if not weeks, with interesting stuff to do along the way. This poses a problem though, as there are groups of friends who would like to travel together. My solution to this (which my friends think is kind of dorky, but I don't know why), is an evolution of an idea from Dragon Warrior IV. You could have a covered wagon, and your friends could log off in the wagon so next time they logged on they weren't an impossible amount of time behind you on the road. There would, of course, need to be a maximum number of people who can travel together, and some sort of level/skill restrictions so low level characters couldn't just be escorted by high level characters.

I also strongly prefer a gradual skill-based advancement system, similar to UO's old system (it is still skill based, but they've made profound changes in that game that I don't like much), rather than the level based system. This is not to say, however, that there couldn't still be quests to do or artifacts to recover that would help you learn new skills or spells. If some Mage has been playing 6 hours a day for the past 4 years, he should be more powerful than any twinked/rushed character could hope for. Naturally, there would be balance concerns that would need to be addressed, for example such a character shouldn't be able to conjure a meteor that destroys a whole city... But that's not to say he couldn't have cool spells that allowed him to do stuff like teleport anywhere in the world, or unlock a portal to an abyssal dimension that no one had even known existed until some party managed to do it.

Another element that could be incorporated into the game is something like NPC armies. Not randomly controlled, but who go where people (employees at the game company in charge of such tasks) command them to, and even actually have the power to sack a city at the company's discretion. In a Forgotten Realms game, it could even follow the timeline of the books. For example, the Threat From the Sea series saw Baldur's Gate sacked... In the game, Baldur's Gate could have been sacked at the same time... And there could be new epic quests added that have to do with that story line.

A truly great MMORPG allows you to establish a virtual life for yourself if you wish to, it's not just some other game where you happen to be running around with 5000 other people.

(There could, of course, be a game similar to this that wasn't Forgotten Realms based, I just bring that up becuase it's a pre-existing very cool, large, immersive world that already has computer game companies who make games for it.)

Give me some feedback, tell me what you think :)

Kind of like the old fantasy-roleplaying games where you could do anything you want. It would be great if there was always something left for you to discover. And what I dislike about the current MMORPGs is that you can quickly get to the top level after which the game loses a bit of excitement. But this game would rock!

Edit: Personally, I'd like to have this set in some kind of Fallout like environment.

Now that a new Warhawk game is finally in the works:

• A good remake of Destruction Derby, with the demolition features of the first game, the racing style of the sequel, and nothing from the crappy third attempt.

• A fighting game with characters like Terminator, Neo, Predator, Blade, Robocop, and other movie characters, with stages played out on the back lots of studios (crashing through sets into the real world and such).

• An action/adventure game set in Stephen King's Dark Tower universe.

I would like to see Starcraft 2.

I think they can make the game look very pretty, thanks to next-gen engines developed now, but I hope they make the actual GAMEPLAY on the "Starcraft" quality level ;) I know they can if they want! :)

Second game which i want to see (for Mac of course) is a super-reallistic 4x4 off-roading game. Something like 4x4 Evolution 3. Make it with super-reallistic graphics, phisics, and 'game feel' or 'atmosphere' and this game will be my favorite for a VEEEERY long time. Very reallistic environments are as important as hi-quality vehicles, but I'm afraid Terminal Reality forgot about it when they made 4x4 Evo 1 and 2.

Oh and make lots of different trucks and SUVs for this game, not only those that are in the streets of USA

Pretty a wish, isn't it? ;) Please make such a game!!!!!!! :D

I think what would be fun too, which would be either impossible or incredibly restrictive, would be to allow an MMORPG game to be played single-player. I like the idea of these types of games however with sooooo many people on the servers your lvl23 gets beat to sh** all the time by the lvl40+ characters whose summer job is to level . The inherent problem being that with only a sole player, it would take tons of NPCs and random computer controlled characters to aid and assist in quests and form parties. That or make MMORPG games playable offline and the credits/skills/equipment earned can then be uploaded to the online servers are a reduced cost/skill/quality, although those who don't want all the interaction to play a little bit online with a relatively close representation of what they had at home.

Also, are there any MMORPG based games created for a LAN enviroment where you can actually play together, save the game or the characters, and reconvene at a later date? If I'm not mistaken Neverwinter Nights was like this....are there any others that do this?

I have an example of making a small world in the game big. It's Knights of the Old Republic.

Maps are not that big in it, but it seems like a universe, maybe because it has a good storyline which makes you go do a lot of VERY differend planets, speek with lots of people, do a lot of quests... :)

At this point in time I'm pissed because, for some reason, BF2 isn't even opening on my perfectly compatible PC... and I spent a few hours with the EA teach support to no avail. Heck, now that I think about it, even if BF2 was released, my PB couldn't play it.

you all seem to have these grand ideas, but my dream game would be something 2D. take out 3D all together. a brilliant, hi-resolution 2D game. platformer of course, maybe something like Metal Slug blended Yoshis Island.

light puzzles, massive levels, non-standard vehicles (hamsterball etc), amazing visuals.

ok so thats; Yoshis Island addictiveness, Metal Slugs superb pixel art visuals, Turricans immense levels... that kinda thing.

This is exactly what my friends and I do with Lionheart. The game took a lot of flak when it came out, but we've gotten *many* hours of play time out of it. Best part, I bought it from Amazon and paid more in standard shipping than for the game itself. :D

something like elder scrolls of morrowind crossed with Neverwinter Nights
that is moddable and relatively open ended... lots of exploring space, random encounters, dungeons and unique monsters at different difficulty settings...
RPG with neat items and a neat leveling system and good graphics is my big wish. Hey I love the old school style games like Avernum I, II, III and Nethergate put out by SpiderWeb Software but there are nice ones put out by Bioware. I am not a big fan of online play nor multiplayer .

A modern FF7 would not only be incredible, it would be very lucrative for Square. My dream would be the Marathon trilogy remade with the Unreal 3 engine, complete with voice acting and new visuals. I always wondered what Durandal would sound like...

A new Myth from Wideload Games (its been conjectured!) would probably rock too, if they could snag the rights.

i doubt there would be a new FF7 ever coming out. its like Ocarina of Time, both, respectively, on par for the best game ever. and as great as a remake of OoT would be it would be rather pointless. the story has been told, all they could do would be to upgrade the graphics. Square Enix would likely add features seen in the new games too... and the way that FF games declined after FF7 it would just be a mess of old and new. and would NOT be as fantastic as the first game, where it had charming visuals replaced by cold uber-textured uber-real graphics. it'd lose a part of itself.
Square should leave FF7 the way it was. not release films and rumour ports for PSP etc.

but thats just me.

I agree that there is something untouchable with the original FF7 that in some respects, I don't want anyone to touch, but I think that even if they simply remade the game as is, with better graphics, it would be great to play. Beyond that though, I would love them to finish the game. Lots of people don't know that Square was rushed to complete the game, and that Disc 4 was actually supposed to be jammed packed with other story lines and such - the developers actually had to scrap a significant chunk of the game due to timing. This is the cause of many of the rumors which were spread around at the time the game was initially released, such as being able to resurrect Aeris, obtain the White Materia, find the Alpha Leviathan, and then little things like "what's behind that hallway in the Junon sub area that the dog is sitting in front of?" - all these things were to be addressed and were initially planned for in one aspect or another. I would love to be able to experience the full FF7 world, but you're correct, it probably will never happen. :(

You guys who like 2D RPG games should check out Clan Lord (http://www.deltatao.com/clanlord/). It's a really incredible game that has been running constantly for 6 years now. It's currently Mac-only but Java and Windows clients are in the works. Don't be put off by the cartoony graphics and small number of character classes (there are only three); it has a huge, complex world with many player-driven storylines and GM-driven special events, and the chat interface and macroing capabilities are second to none. It has its flaws, but there's definitely nothing else like it out there. The Sentinel (http://vagilemind.com/clanlord/) is the main web message board for it, although many clans have their own pages.

I'd love to see an online sandbox game. Something along the lines of legos, but digital. I can imagine building a unique world with its own physics and look, then sharing the world with others online. With the ability to make vehicles, weapons, buildings, etc. you really could build your own games.

Thus, you and three friends could each make your own world. In world 1 you could play CTF in a fantasy environment with low gravity and swords. World 2 could be a grungy urban environment where the idea is co-op platforming. World 3 could be a space shuttle, where the object is to take over another planet.

Anyways, the idea here is that this would be the last game anyone needed to buy, as anything would be possible in this virtual playground. I know this is at least 20 years out, but a guy can hope can't he.

This is the coolest idea ever. Especially if it actually was Lego, but then I love Lego. Puzzle games, platform, fighting (see Lego Star Wars), racing (see Lego Racers but make it better), etc. If it was done well it could be amazing, and could be totally tailor-made to everyone. Me and my boyfriend have quite different tastes in games, but he could shoot stuff, and I could puzzle, but we could meet up for skating or 2 player platform. It really could suit everyone. Nice idea, kuyu.

I think that today's games lack the storyline and gameplay of the older ones...

Also, I would like to see Kurushi (a thinking game for PSX) coming out for the macintosh...

Lack of gameplay is arguable but storylines are just about all that most games do not lack these days. I like simple games like Super Monkey Ball and Wario Ware where ;) the story is icing on the cake. In most other games completing the story-telling process seems to be the main driving force of the game design and in most cases the story is not interesting.

Kurushi, or IQ as it was known in other parts of the world, is on my top three PlayStation games. Resident Evil frightened me at times but Kurishi made me feel like a small part of the world fighting for its survival. I look forward to playing it through the PlayStation emulator if I ever get it to work.

There was another PlayStation game called Vib Ribbon. This was a platform game meant to be played with Audio CDs providing the levels. It would be perfect as an iTunes visualiser.

Buy a PC. Custom build one and get a good graphics card. HL2 has the MOST amazing graphics I've ever seen in a game. And the physics is so realistic. I think I'm going to go play some single-player right now :)

Not sure if any of you have seen .hack//sign or not (anime series) however the idea of the series is based around a game as well. That was a SWEET idea, although a few years out once virtual-gaming becomes more common and the bugs are worked out.

Premis being an online MMORPG where you actually login and play via virtual headset (and I believe handset as well), controlling your person in the world and interacting with other players. Same basic MMORPG idea with choosing a class, leveling, PKing....awesome series if you want to watch something good, kind of scary if you do watch it though, considering he was stuck inside

I love the idea of MMORPGs however I have neither the time nor the wallet to fork over sums of money to these greedy developers (I'm angry :p). I played Lineage2 in closed/open beta and it was cool, but when it came out for $12.99 or whatever it was, for the couple of times a month where I will play it isn't really worth it, not to mention if I cannot play every damn day like some of those people, I just get raped everytime I log in by PKer's hanging outside safe cities :( I would love to play an MMORPG that had fast-leveling in a lan based enviroment where my friends and I could complete numerous quests and level in one night, or perhaps a weekend at most.

You can hunt for food, find and build a nest, attack people or animals, be attacked from people or other animals. You can be various birds including a eagle, pigeon, hummingbird, crow, dove. You can be a bird in various locations and cities around the world. You can fly in a group (online with others) or go solo. Not to turn my own thread into a SC thread, but I really want SC2 as well, it just has so much potential, and with all the advancments in graphics and chip technology, well I have amazing visions of this game to say the least!

I still think my open-universe MMORPG would be awesome, even better if it was a World of Starcraft type universe. If Blizzard pursued WoSC I would say right now that it would be the first MMORPG I would actually subscribe to and play....probably too much :p

I realize there are limits to bandwidth and production costs, moderation and countless other things I don't understand, but it seems like there is a lot of untapped potential for games. I really hope to see some great things this year, in the coming year, and in the near future after that.

Another possibly neat idea would be a virtual reality Sims style game where you could basically play your Sim in Simville or whatever, just like the existing game however in VR. I realize this is further out, but imagine the possibilities of interacting on a human-to-human level in an online game...

I still think my open-universe MMORPG would be awesome, even better if it was a World of Starcraft type universe. If Blizzard pursued WoSC I would say right now that it would be the first MMORPG I would actually subscribe to and play....probably too much :p

I, too, cannot wait until Blizzard releases this fine game. And yes, WoSC would be extremely cool, (as you say, the first MMORPG I would actually be tempted to play), but I would prefer a SC2 to base it off first! ;)

Which point was that? I realize you are a newbie, so let me offer you some helpful advice - if you want to reference something another person said, simply hit the QUOTE button and respond away! :)

F-Zero DS would be amazing. only cuz im completely addicted to F-Zero GX right now.

MMORPG Pokemon game, on the DS of course. firstly, the MMORPG part would be villages, people trading items and pokemon. make friends and go dual battle etc. could be real Gym trainers... set up your own house (aka, Secret Base from Ruby/Sapphire) hidden in trees and caves. all this should take place in one single massive town, the rest of the games towns and cities would be as they are now.

would be totally 3D. apart from maybe in buildings where it goes top view but still 3D. because of that Pokemon could be fluidly animated, which'd be a welcome addition! seeing those beautiful worlds in full 3D would be intense.

and of course every pokemon should be in there. with the obligatory 100 or so new ones.

use the touchscreen to use small pokemon as virtual pets, like Nintendogs. much better than Berry Blending to build their non-battle stats. and of course use the microphone to shout commands at your pokemon! mwhaha!

would be good :D

Do you mean

a)you don't want Starcraft 2 to come out at all, and that Warcraft 3 should never have come out as well

or

b) you want Starcraft 2 to come out, but don't want it turning out like Warcraft 3 because you didn't like some aspect of that game for whatever reason

Please clarify. :)

As for me, Starcraft 2 is definitely on the top of my list - I can't think of a game I'd like to see released more than that one. Truth is, I don't really even play games anymore - but Starcraft 2 would bring me back out of retirement.

Where did you hear this? Please post a link to an article, I would like to read that.

It used to be (still is?) in the SC Ghost FAQ on Blizzard's site.

That's what I figured, but it wasn't worded too clearly so I just wanted to confirm. And I'm in that same boat myself, even though it already has seemed like ages since Brood War was released. ;)

2- WoW 2

I would love this to happen, but i just can't part with the 15 dollars every monh it's like a nagging relationship because i have no idea if i will have time in the future or hell later this week. I never know and therefore would not feel comfortable doing this.

Nobody in for racing?

I love having a go at Richard Burns Rally, DTM Race Driver 2, Collin McRae Rally 2005, and the Need For Speed series.

Now... Collin McRae is coming to the Mac!! We've got Nascar Racing 2003 too

Still, I would love to see more racing games coming to OS X.... Like the coming Need For Speed Most Wanted should be awesome! Gr8 grfx and the gameplay of Hot Pursuit... (not the boring Underground stuff) :)

Short list for Father X-mas:

- Need for Speed Most Wanted
- Richard Burns rally
- DTM Race Driver 2

... but also:

- Half Life 2 (such a cool game...)
- The rest of the MOH series (Pacific Assault etc.)
- BattleField 2

Perhaps Wideload could come up with a non-Marathon Marathon sequel (or at least a game where making levels was as easy as that...I mean, Unreal Tournament gets a bit complicated). I'd like to see Starcraft again in some form as Ghost has shifted in what I thought it was so often, I'm wondering if it'll be any good. Perhaps they could revisit the Black and White universe or Oni (or another FPS that uses fighting moves more often than weaponry).

Now that I'm done looking through my game listings...I'd like to see more non-linear games. Some RPGs get close to this, but most of the time it's still a linear game (just that you choose the sequence). I'd like more games where both the outcome and how you get there change depending on what you do (sort of like Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis). I'd love to see more good flight sims. I love A-10 and Rebel Assault/Rogue Squadron.

On another angle, how about music creation/art games along the lines of Mario Paint or Electroplankton (coming soon?).

This game doesn't exist anywhere including consoles but I would like to see a variation of the various flight simulators but as a bird. You can hunt for food, find and build a nest, attack people or animals, be attacked from people or other animals. You can be various birds including a eagle, pigeon, hummingbird, crow, dove. You can be a bird in various locations and cities around the world. You can fly in a group (online with others) or go solo. Maybe this is just a bad idea for a game but I would like to see it anyways.

I really like this idea. Except i would call it War Birds or someting and u could battle online wars in the skys over various cities. The bigger birds like pellicans or albatrosses would be like transports, and eagles are like the tanks, slower moving but better shields, and the little sparrows could be like infantry so on and so forth. And they have various machine guns and such stapped to ther backs. should be fairly easy to get bird animations. Funny crash animations ensue...

I want an Off-Road racing game (in 4x4 Evolution style) with superior gfx and physics.

Oh yea and Unreal Tournament 2007! :D

BF2 would be cool too

The only game for the Mac that I really missed is freespace 2, which existed only for PC. Luckily, it is now released for the macintosh, since it's open-source now. Look here
