Hello,

I'm a PhD student who reads ALOT of pdfs for school. I've been using iAnnotate for about 6 months. It is great for highlighting and making notes but I need something that will allow me to either copy/paste text or--better yet--directly export the text that I have highlighted.

I was talking to someone who owns a Kindle who said that when she highlights it is automatically exported to the cloud. Is there a PDF app that does anything close to that?

Thanks,
d

iAnnotate has the ability to email just what you annotate. So if you highlight different sections of text and then select the "email annotation summary" tool, it will prepare an email with just the text that you highlighted. If you create other types of annotations, I think they will also be included in the email.

There is a really simple yet robust tool for extracting highlights and notes from your pdf-files available at: http://www.sumnotes.net . Not only it supports various advanced features like selective extraction or predictive extraction, but it also allows you to save extracted highlights into TXT or DOC files. All desktop browsers and operating systems are supported. We are in cloud, so no installation is needed. And yes, it is for free. Try it out.

Like epicmar said, iAnnotate exports your annotations via email, I use that feature all the time. It's the icon at bottom right of the second screen shot on this page (partially hidden) that looks like an envelope with speech bubbles:

You can also copy and paste text with iAnnotate, but exporting highlights via email would be a much smoother way of doing it.

Believe it or not, if your PDF has the OCR overlay needed, iBook's has got ya covered ;)
