i want to upgrade my 2011 mac mini but I'm stuck.
i want to upgrade the internal hard drive to a ssd from ocz: the vertex 4 120 gb but i want my old hard drive as a external hard drive with the owc on the go pro is this possible. but i want to boot from the ssd because that's faster and i still want to use the music, photos en other stuff on that external hard drive .
anyone know how? 

It is possible, since you can select the startup disk in System Preferences > Startup Disk.

While the following guide is for MacBooks and MacBook Pros, the same principles about transferring data applies:
MacBook, MacBook Pro: Replacing the Hard Disk Drive, transferring data to the new HDD

the guide includes:
  • 0. Identify your MacBook or MacBook Pro
  • 1. Getting a new HDD
  • 2. Guides to replace the internal HDD with a newer one
  • 3. Transferring data from the old HDD to the new HDD
  • 4. Using the optical disk drive (ODD) slot for placing an SSD or HDD inside the MB/P (OPTIBAY)

look it is easy and safe to buy the seagate t-bolt adapter

this is the thread

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1317577/

this is one of the best ssd's to use
price
performance
plus it works

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226226

this is a source for the cable and the adapter

http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-GoFlex-Thunderbolt-Adapter-STAE121/dp/B006P1QWOQ

total cost is more (about 400 for a 240gb setup) but it is easy and safe.

Something to consider rather then putting the ssd in the mini.
