In January 2002, he grazed his cheek after choking on a pretzel and fainting.

Now that is funny.

At least he can a run a country, I mean that's easier than riding a bike, using a segway, running or eating a Pretzel...

OMG, you mean a person who actively works out fell off of his bike? How could this be? I bet W. wishes he were Chirac. Then we wouldn't have to worry about a minor collision, because he would be too fat. I'm sorry, but I don't see what the big deal is. He works out on a daily basis. Things happen. Sorry, folks but W was never a deployed fighter pilot. He was in the Texas air national guard keeping the US safe from...um...I guess Cuba. I think that the Air Force knew that if US national security depended on W doing any fighting himself, we'd be up the creek.

I bet he permanently wrecked his inner ear with all his booze and coke.

yeah, a lot of people just think I'm insane for it (plus I am female, which makes me a minority in this arena too) but it's just my favorite thing to do. I've calmed down quite a bit but there was a time when I was far too 'out of control' for my own good. everyone has their own little guilty pleasure and "weakness" for something that is probably not the best thing for them, this is mine (that and this powerbook, which is my other little vice when I am not riding or otherwise busy) :)

hey it happens ... I've had my share of bicycling accidents too.

With my Jamis road bicycle, my front tire exploded and the force of the explosion caused the rubber to invert in shape. It got caught on my fork, and I was thrown off. I wasn't going fast but I had so much momentum that I slid 10 feet face first into the concrete. I had a bloody chin with a scar the size of a half dollar. I had to go to work later that day too. How embarassing.

With my mountain bicycle, I decided to ride on a grassy area down a gentle decline. I hit a bump in the grass and my butt came off the seat and the bike zoomed forward while my hands were still on the handle bars. Next thing I knew, my butt landed on my rear tire while still going. My feet ended up being on the grass ... I was in water skii position with a mountain bike tire grinding a wedgy into my butt. While I was still going, I was contemplating the pros and cons of letting go of my bike at that moment.

Another time, I decided to take a short cut to my class between the graduate business and fine arts building in the evening. It was overgrown with small plants but I figured that's what a mountain bike is for. Rode down that steeper slope half way and flipped over, landing on my arm and face again. There was a 2-3 foot drop covered up by the plants. Hooray.

And then when I was 5 years old ... haha, just kidding.

i agree with the posts by the "it could happen to anyone" crowd.

look at how well spoken he is, how eloquent and intelligent he comes across in the media, the fact that he's wiped out riding his bike before (on flat ground). come on! he's a tool.

it would seem like riding a bike, and speaking, or any other activity using higher brain function simultaneously would be beyond his grasp.

and frankly it's good to see media coverage of events like this - a guy that can't even ride a bike - running one of the wealthiest most powerful nations on the planet. you can draw your own conclusions.

I don't see how people say "He can't even ride a bike!"

That's like someone telling me "you can't even throw a football" if i make a bad pass. he rides his bike quite a bit, and the media (of course) only reports the times he falls. the media does this with everything, like kidnappings, shark attacks, etc.

you think it happens all the time just because the media talks about it.

Have you ever tripped and fallen? Maybe been walking up the stairs and slipped?

If you answered yes to either of those questions, then by your resononing you lack the brain capacity to walk or climb a flight of stairs. Everybody makes mistakes and has accidents. The President is not exception...

Like you've never crashed on yours? The guy falls down, and people are like "OMG!! Bike ownz teh bush!!1!".

If Steve Jobs crashed his bike, you'd all be like "Awww..poor Steve. Must of been an engineering mistake with the bike."

George Bush has had like 4 main accidents like this in 5 years (Pretzel, segway, and 2 bike falls). Are you telling me in the last 5 years, you have not fallen down, bumped your head while entering the car, slipped, sucked some soda down the wrong pipe, or had some goofy mishap?

Such a funny thing with the Bush-hating folks. They criticize the man for not being perfect, then freak out should he fall from his bike or have some tiny accident.

I did not vote for Bush, but I must say - if you base your voting on whether or not one has choked on a pretzel, you shouldn't be voting for anybody.

do you mean "reasoning"? and no i haven't fallen off my bike since i was like 6 years old. yes, i've had accidents, but not ones that are publicly staged media events like riding my bicycle at a G8 event - haven't had the opportunity. it would be like the kennedy's media event - throwing a football and one gets it in the eye and is hurt - wouldn't you think they were a bit of a weenie? a staged event for publicity gone wrong.

plus, he's not "my president", he's a public figure and as such he's open to more scrutiny than you or i. i honestly thought it was funny. and frankly i think that the portrayal in the media is of a buffoon falling from his bike, and oh yeah, he just happens to be the president. his accidents don't seem to help his public image.

And the doctors and workplaces tend to turn people in for domestic violence because of the cloud of litigation they would face if they didn't.

Of course if the workplace believed his falling down story, they'd probably send him to a substance abuse program.

Don't try to inject logic into this. Not to stereotype or anything, but I have a feeling that those who get their info primarily from Fox News just don't realize how conservative France actually is. But, you know, Bush = good and Chirac/Putin = bad. I guess.

For the record, had this happened to Clinton, Gore, Kerry, etc... I'd be laughing. It's funny. Of course, they didn't fry their brains with years of drugs and alcohol.
