USB Devices for 3rd Generation iPad

I have just purchased a 3rd generation iPad and camera kit. I can move photos from my CF card with the camera connection kit but I have been unable to get the iPad to recognise my 32GB flash drive when I use the USB connector. I am also interested to know if the new iPad could read a USB hard drive.:(

What type of files are on the USB drive?

I think the camera connection kit will only recognize image files. If I remember correctly there are some ways around the restriction with a jailbreak.
