ha ha are there any other alternatives?
i was thinkinga bout taking a knife or something slim to pry it out, then either make my own logo or tear it off from some old computer and tape it onto it

If it bothers you so much, you shouldn't have purchased a Dell. Dell makes a quality monitor, give them their due.

if Kim Jong Il made a quality lcd screen would you have his logo on it? didn't think so :)

It seems wrong to put an Apple logo on a Dell. Am I alone here?

1) An angle grinder will take that logo off in seconds flat. Careful here...
2) Bondo to fill up the scratches left by the angle grinder, then
3) Careful sanding to recontour the bondo to the slightly convex bezel, then
4) Hmm, matte black model paint to cover up the bondo, then
5) Uh, what was the objective again?

I wouldn't buy it. And don't you think thats a little harsh and insensitive to compare the two?

Sadly, MacRumors is far more stable on IE than on Firefox or Safari. On the others, postings links quite often get malformed pages that display code. IE works better for me with MR, in both Win and Mac.

I have no problems whatsoever using MR on Safari. Weird... what kind of problems do you have?

As for the "project", I wouldn't do it if I were you. You won't keep that monitor forever, and one day you will want to sell it. And you'll probably kick yourself having the cosmetic damage that devalues the monitor to petty $$$.

I've never found any need to install IE on my Mac. MR works just fine in Safari (plus you get spellchecking), and any website that only supports IE usually isn't worth visiting.

Too right but this thread has been hijacked.....
Don't see any obvious ways you could replace the dell logo with an apple one unless you know your stuff with modding and could chip it off and create your own apple logo and stick it on...
Personally i wuldnt bother getting rid of the dell stuff as it will probably damage your beautiful monitor...

Sorry, I had completely forgotten about what the thread was about by the time I got to the bottom :D
I've got a Widescreen 20" Dell, personally I don't want to break it by prising off the logo, it might end up more ugly than when it started.

Buy a nice, pure white (like ipod) lacquer paint and paint the entire black part of the screen (i dont mean the lcd, the other part). then it will be appley.

Perhaps you could even cut an apple shaped hole in the back and let some of the backlight shine through :D

Personally, I like having the Dell there. It shows I'm not some kind of fanatic, but that I have the sense to recognize quality and a good deal no matter where I find them -- and that's why the computer is a Mac.

what is so wrong with dell? their computers are of a poor quality compared to a mac, but what do we care about wintel machines anway? its macintel all the way!!!
and as for the monitor dell makes great monitors, you should be happy to use them!!! the monitor i have the 2005fpw uses the same screen as the 20" apple monitor, so dell knows how to chose good components for their monitors.
if you really want to get sticky. . . try prying off the front pannel of the monitor. at least on mine it looks like the front plastic covering can be pulled off. then get rid of the dell logo, fill it with some modeling plastic filler then paint it black to match. then cut a piece of aluminium from your favorite beverage can and use a brillo pad to give it the brushed Al effect. then glue it on the front!

Wrong. (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=133855)
Not exactly wrong. They use the same panel. As unique as Apple's Cinema display might be in the world of 19" to 21" flat panel displays, it shares the same LG.Philips panel as the Dell UltraSharp 2005FPW.

For me the problem is not the Dell logo but whole damn black plastic case. I actually find their LCD TVs pretty pleasant to look at. I know it'd be an expensive mod, but I'd actually consider replacing the entire front piece with some other material.
I remember seeing a post of someone taking the Dell LCD apart and painting it white. It actually looked pretty cool. Metallic paints tend to look cheesy, but if you found one that was even and not so shiny, it could look pretty cool to repaint the LCD silver.

Guess that depends on what you're placing it next to. My DELL looks fine next to my Shuttle box (which IMO looks quite nice). An Apple Cinema whould look completely out of place (My old 15" Cinema sure did).
It's all about consistency.
