macOS Anyone working on syncing other MP3 Players with iTunes?

I am curious if anyone knows of plugins or maybe people working on synchcronization of other MP3 players with iTunes. I use the organization elements primarily and don't care about the Music Store or AAC formatted songs. I simply want to sync

I know Apple has a list of compatible players, but I am curious if anyone has done work on other players that are not supported or might know where to look for some sample code.

Figuring that both iTunes and iPods rely heavily on the Library XML file. I would think the player itself would need to be modified to be able to read that in. If you look at the iPods directory structure, its almost the same as the music directory structure on your computer with notable exceptions such as photos.
