Best way to get rid of trading cards and comics?

I have alots of trading cards and TONS of comics. And I want to sell them all. What's the best way? eBay seems a bad place to do it, since there doesn't seem to be many bids on those items. Where else can I sell them en masse?

Where can I research the prices of them, to make sure I won't get ripped off?

Don't know about the sales part, but leaving all your baseball cards in three lunch boxes in the basement of the house you grew up in is a slam dunk, mom will throw them away. There wasn't much of value in my card collection, though. Couple of Mickey Mantle rookie cards, Hank Aaron, Warren Spawn, Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford, you know, junk like that :o

Whether or not you decide to sell them through a local comic/card store, I suggest asking your question there. They might know about both online sites and retail sites and what the tradeoffs are. There are also annual conventions of collectors, which you could attend if you have a significant collection and don't mind spending some time to sell it.

It's been years since I sold any comics, but I still buy them now and then. I guess I'm not going to make much money at the hobby this way!

Before you take ANYTHING to a comic book store, make a complete inventory of what you have in your collection. I took my comics into a store here in Charlotte a long time ago, just to see what they'd offer me for them... when I went back, they had bagged all of my comics and put at least some of them into their stock. I got back MOST of my comics, but a few were missing (I know because I had complete runs of them, and there were gaps when I got my comics back).

So you basically bought your comics in, they said "I'll look at it, come back in x days and I'll let you know"? Sounds weird... Is this normal practice?

whatever you do don't expect to get a lot of money from them, expect maybe half of their retail value if the store(s) you sell them to are feeling generous :)

What do you have? I made a small fortune selling a few old comics on ebay.

You need to get them CGC'ed (http://www.cgccomics.com/index.asp) of course.

But rethink ebay. My stuff sold for well over guide (overstreet).

I got over $1000 for an All Winners CGC 7.5.

$900 for an early Spider-Man CGC 8.0

These were not high grade either. It's the high grade stuff that makes a killing on ebay. Sometimes as much as ten times over guide.

Key issues sell well of course (Hulk 181, Spiderman 129, etc.). Timelys always do well, but I'd keep those if you have any.

Nah, I don't have those kinds of comics - I have Aliens, Predator, Aliens versus Predator, the oldest are from 1988 or so. Along with comics that are worth little - Ren & Stimpy, Mortal Kombat, Sonic the Hedgehog, and a few Pokemon.

I have a CGC 9.6 Hulk #181 that I bought new myself (with the 25 cent cover price). It's worth about $4000 now on ebay. :D
