My laptop has been acting strange lately. I turned it on this morning after it overheated and there is a progress bar on the load screen. Anyone know why that would be there?

It could be just doing a disk check to make sure nothing was corrupted as a result of the shutdown due to overheating. If it happens every time the computer starts up, you may want to run Disk Utility to Verify Disk and make sure its not a warning sign or an indicator of something worse.
