Everything? ;)

Doctor Q

That's an awfully general question.

I read and post in forums (and moderate one in particular), do research, send/receive e-mail, keep up with news, buy music, find song lyrics, shop and buy electronics and books, solve problems, IM coworkers/friends/family, do business, try shareware, find the answers to random questions, try interesting web sites, maintain a website, post photos, read documentation, transfer files, and answer awfully general questions.

No, I never ordered a pizza or gambled online.

Since plenty of people do all of the above, perhaps we should each post to this thread only if we have something new (not previously mentioned in the thread) that we do online.

www.compuglobalhypermega.net (http://www.compuglobalhypermega.net/) is currently a site for studying which state Springfield is in. They have it narrowed down to 13: Arkansas, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Nebraska, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Wyoming.

A good place to spend (waste?) time on the net.

Very cool, I always wondered if anyone had ever taken the time to try and piece together the myriad of clues out there over the past 16 season to try and figure it out. Obviously someone has done their homework!

Matt Groening says it's California on the very first Simpson DVD.

Not being an owner of the actual DVDs, I was not aware of this fact - I thought it was still a great mystery! Hmm, so did he say why, or there was ever any proof given on the show? It would seem then that the people who run the linked site above are wrong - perhaps now they have to review every single episode and look for clues which point towards California, and that can be their new challenge!

Well, it's one of those things.. I think in "reality" Springfield isn't in any one state, so the 'Search for Springfield' is about as pointless as pointless could be. But I don't want to dash anyone's hopes.. I don't remember what the direct quote is, but he alluded to Springfield being in a "very large state on the west coast".

Yah, I've always thought it simply doesn't exist and that for all intents and purposes it's "Anytown, USA". I think what started this whole thing were the running jokes about the ambiguity of its location, and that one episode where someone told Lisa that he tried sending her mail, but didn't know what state to send it to, and Lisa replied, "Yah, it's tricky but the clues are there if you look closely" or something to that effect. (No way I'm getting that quote exact right!) So that probably set off the hardcore fans even more as a challenge to try and figure it out. The Simpsons writers meanwhile are probably just sitting back and laughing at how much effort people have put into trying to figure it out.

Oh wait, we're really off-topic here. :o ;)

Or maybe not - what some people do online is search for Simpsons info. There. Problem solved. :p

I don't do anything out of the ordinary online – mainly email, IMing and browsing the web (including frequent visits to MacRumors, of course!). If there's anything factual I want to find out I just Google the info up. A great time saver and it makes me look intelligent to boot. ;)

As I've mentioned another thread though, I did meet my girlfriend online so that's another use the internet has!

I mostly just check email and use Adium. I also use the 'net for news and opinion pieces on current events. I've also done a fair amount of research for future employment opportunities, car and house purchases online.

On occasion I check the surf reports for the Gulf rather obsessively, especially if I know a large storm is headed our way.

I also post on several forums from time to time, but for some reason, forum hopping has just lost it's appeal. :p

------
1) MacRumors (of course!!!)
2) E-Mail
3) Downloading music off of the iTunes Music Store.
4) Schoolwork (on occasion ;) )
etc...
