Additional Sketchy 15" MacBook Pro Specs from Chinese Forum Post

Earlier today, a Chinese forum post on Weiphone claimed to have the specs for the new 13" MacBook Pro revision. Disappointingly, the changes were minor with no evidence of a new design or the use of any high resolution Retina display.

The original poster has since edited his post with additional claims for the 15" MacBook Pro update. The specs listed include:
New Macbook Pro 15 inch:
i7 2820 2.3GHZ/2x2GB/500GB
i7 2860 2.5GHZ/2x4GB/750GB
Custom 2.7GHZ/2x4GB/1TB
Card is NV GT650M 1G

What's questionable about these specs is that the processors listed are previous generation Intel processors and not the new Ivy Bridge ones that we have been expecting. While representing a slight upgrade to the existing 15" MacBook Pro models, it's hard to believe that Apple would use last year's processors in their upgrade.

Oh boy. Be wrong, please. The upside is that these actually DO sound weird. And raises my hopes for Retina Macs once again, since the source is the same...

Why is this even being reported? I'm trying to do work and when I see these teases in my twitter from MR- it throws off my productivity!

Surely they ARE worth reporting because this last one casts doubt on the accuracy of the first, given that they are both from the same source.

Maybe, a misunderstanding. Thats because Intel has 2.3 GHz Ivy Bridge Processor that will likely be in slower Macbook Pro, and 2.6 GHz that will be in faster version. Another thing is that the benchmarks that were flying around said that there will be 8 GB as standard, which is connected to this information.

Only thing what bothers me is the GT 650M... I thought they will stick with Radeon chips.

I think I'm going to go post this on a chinese blog, and see if it shows up here:

Exclusive interview with high-level Apple employee claims new MacBook pro will be TRANSPORTABLE with an 8 inch green screen monitor and dual 5.25 inch floppy drives. It comes with 256 MB RAM, upgradable to 640k for an additional $1,265.

1. Don't expect a huge leap in specs or a major redesign. Contrary to rumor, Apple's not required to do either and small steps are more their style

2. You are correct that Ivy Bridge in the 13 and only Sandy in the 15 doesn't make sense. The 15 and 17 by tradition are the "Pro" models so they would have better than the 13 or everything will be the same

Oh I get it now.. This is a "leak" from Apple intended to figure out who are the employees leaking information by identifying which nonsense information came from which source. Pretty clever. I think that's what Cook was referring to when talking about "doubling down on leaks". Goodbye employee #87213!

I'm torn. On one hand, if these two "leaks" (cough) turn out to be true, it'd mean the optical drive was staying - something which I *personally* would be very happy about - but it'd also mean the same crap screen resolution on the 13".

I just want a higher screen resolution - not even retina, just some more screen estate to play with and the ODD to stay and I'd be 100% happy. Just one change would be enough for me.

So, I'm unsure whether I want these to be real or not.

Two years ago, 13 mbp was left behind on old cpu because of graphic.
Now, the opposite, 15 got it, and 13 got the ivy with hd4000 which is true significantly better then the old one.
Dunno, but, from what we experienced in the past, updates were indeed minor, and rumors were unrealistic.
I see that many people imagine all sorts of versions just to keep one bumped for there own wishes, but in the end, I am pretty shure the update will be pretty much minor.

Not only did they list older processors..they listed an old screen resolution that is lesser then the current model out now.

Maybe the guy had meant to say the i7-3820qm and i7-3860qm?

There's an Intel page for the i7-3820qm, but I couldn't find one for the 3860qm.

AFAIK, the i7 3860QM doesn't exist yet. they're on the xx10-xx20 cycle upgrade and not yet the xx20-xx60 for that line.

I don't find any discrepancies with the resolutions? The 13" is 1280x800 and 15" is 1440x900, that's both right.

Of interest, aside from retina, its thinness, USB 3.0, and non-standard SSD would be a whopping 16GB of RAM, FireWire 800, and ethernet.

Also, is the AMD Radeon HD 7770M any good?

EDIT: Quad-core 2.6GHz with 8MB cache is no where to be found on Intel's site. Also, 2560x1600 retina would only be 1280x800... which on a 15in screen doesn't really make sense.

It does not make sense to me that Apple would stoak interest with their Retina display in a iPad, so they could exclude it futher down the line in other relevant products?

If they can put Retina in the iPad, they should be able to in the MBP etc.
Plus all the Retina icon updates?
