Yeah, had a coupe G5s now. All came with seagate HDD and some came with sony DVD-R and some with Pioneer DVD-R. Pioneer is the better one in my opinion.

Well my Power Mac G5 (in signature) has a Western Digital HD & the Sony DVD Burner (my brand of choice).

Mine has a Seagate. It went belly up so I bought another one. I was going to try another brand but since this is the first problem I've had with Seagate, I stuck with them.

If this latest one goes belly up, I will be moving to a different manufacturer.

I had a Seagate Barracuda HD drive in my PeeCee when I had it (gave to parents). Its worked fine now for over 3.5 years. Sorry to hear about your problem with Seagate - I think that they are normally a good brand to choose.

My G5 had Maxtor. All our Mac G5's at work had Maxtor as well. They have all held up, contrary to the often stated point that Maxtor's fail often. I like them. They are quieter than any WD drive I've ever used. I guess it probably depends on batches... some are better than others.

Well my WD HD seems to be quiet so far (*crosses fingers*). But I have never had a Maxtor HD (nothing against them, just never had one) so I would not know how to compare noise levels between the two brands.

Oh....OK............so not really any difference...but lets say you have type "X" then if you install a 2nd drive should it also be of brand "X" :confused:

Nope, doesn't matter. You can use any brand you like when adding a second hard drive.

Of course, if you are planning to use Disk Utility's RAID function to combine the two, it's my understanding that you should have the same spindle speed.

Trying to made a RAID 1 from one 10K rpm drive and one 7200 rpm drive wouldn't work well. Not certain about RAID 0, but it's probably not a big deal.

I doubt that you were considering 10k/15k/5400 rpm drives anyway.

that would be a waste of a 10K drive, when RAIDing two different HD's they will be as fast as a pair of the slowest drive.

Well, I will post what is in my PowerMac G5 as soon as it gets here. I ordered a week ago and APPLE says 10 - 14 bussiness days. I was so excited that I went ahead and included in my signature.

I also love my Maxtor One Touch. I've never had any problems with the Maxtor drives I've had over the years. I consider them to be quite good. IBM on the other hand is a different story. Every IBM drive (total of 3) I've ever had has failed. My father's had 2 or 3 Hitatchi drives fail on him. Had good luck with Western Digital, Seagate and Maxtor.

I like the onetouch products too, thet look pretty good.
But the fault percent is huge imo. (i work as a tech in a retailstore, we sell large amounts of these drives)

If i was to buy one of these now i would go for Lacie or seagate. (or WD)
(now i got a 2,5" enclosure with some 40gb ibm or fujitsu drive that was laying around. works like a charm)
