With Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) set to kick off in San Francisco with a highly-anticipated keynote at 10:00 AM Pacific Time, it's time for us to set the stage with final details on the latest rumors and coverage information.

Coverage

MacRumors will be offering live text and photo updates from the keynote through MacRumorsLive.com (http://www.macrumorslive.com) (Transcription is being handled by @hodapp (http://twitter.com/hodapp)). The main MacRumors.com page will automatically redirect to MacRumorsLive as we get closer to the event, so stay tuned here. We will also be providing Twitter updates through our @MacRumorsLive (http://twitter.com/macrumorslive) account. Separate news stories regarding the event announcements will go out through our @MacRumors (http://twitter.com/macrumors) account.

As is routine for major Apple product announcements, the Apple online store has already been down for several hours and will almost certainly remain down until the conclusion of the keynote.

MacRumors forum members interested in a "spoiler-free" environment to wait for the full keynote video to become available can follow the thread associated with our dedicated article (http://www.macrumors.com/2012/06/09/wwdc-2012-spoiler-free-video-stream/). A direct link to the official keynote video will be posted there when it becomes available.

Rumors

We posted our comprehensive rumor roundup (http://www.macrumors.com/2012/06/10/wwdc-2012-rumor-roundup-ios-6-mountain-lion-icloud-and-macs/) over the weekend, but details have continued to surface since that time, most notably including details on new Retina MacBook Pro (http://www.macrumors.com/2012/06/11/retina-macbook-pro-arriving-with-up-to-16-gb-ram-and-768-gb-ssd/), MacBook Air (http://www.macrumors.com/2012/06/11/macbook-air-upgrades-said-to-include-up-to-8-gb-ram-and-512-gb-ssd/), and standard MacBook Pro and Mac Pro (http://www.macrumors.com/2012/06/11/details-on-new-mac-pro-and-macbook-pro-specs-surface-retina-notebook-still-under-wraps/) models. Apple has also been said to be releasing developer builds of iOS 6 and Safari 6 (http://www.macrumors.com/2012/06/10/apple-releasing-ios-6-beta-build-10a5316k-and-safari-6-developer-preview-at-wwdc/) today. Finally, Apple will be launching its annual Back to School promotion (http://www.macrumors.com/2012/06/11/apple-back-to-school-promo-starts-tomorrow-with-itunes-gift-cards-100-for-macs-50-for-ipad/) tomorrow, although it is unclear whether that will be included in today's announcements.

9to5Mac now reports (http://9to5mac.com/2012/06/11/apple-will-reveal-50-ish-ipad-smart-case-in-a-few-moments/) that Apple will be introducing an "iPad Smart Case" available in six colors: dark gray, light gray, pink, green, blue, and red. These appear to the accessories that were initially thought (http://www.macrumors.com/2012/06/06/alleged-new-part-numbers-suggest-over-a-dozen-new-mac-models-coming-at-wwdc/) to be new iPod shuffle models in a leaked part number list. iLounge had claimed that an enhanced Smart Cover (http://www.macrumors.com/2012/03/05/enhanced-smart-cover-with-rear-protection-for-ipad-3-glass-backed-iphone-5-in-the-works/) was in the works earlier this year, but it did not appear alongside the third-generation iPad.

I'm really hoping for a Apple TV app store, the rest I haven't got my hopes up for anything too exciting (hopefully I'm wrong).

I am not looking forward to all the fourm posts saying how apple has disappointed people, or how apple is doomed becuase they didn't meet expectations based off of nothing but a few strangers guessing things.

I've been watching the D10 interview with Tim Cook for the last hour and a half. It's going to almost get me to the start of the Keynote. Definitely glad they released the full video when they did, as it's kept me occupied and not absolutely bouncing off the walls.

Somebody should snag the curtain and snap a photo before they're hauled out by security.

I think the odds of an iPhone announcement are decent. If the new iPhone is to have new hardware features, developers will need lead time to write code to take advantage of those features, before the phone is released.

Likely going to go for either the ArsTechnia or Engadget coverage - in every keynote I've seen they have been a good 5 mins ahead of MacRumors, who seem to suffer with way too many people on the server, slowing down photo uploads and even text updates to a crawl.

I'm going out on a limb to say the odds of an iPhone announcement are at 0%.

Apple has added new hardware features and revealed them to devs at the last minute before. (See retina display)

History points to the opening of the iOS 6 beta today, followed by a new iPhone around 3-4 months later in time for the new OS release.

No retina on the MBPs. Quite obvious that there wouldn't be. The graphics would be intensive and the battery life to go along with that would be horrendous, particularly for those who use their macs for graphics intensive purposes.

Glad they are still updating and keeping the 13" MBP. And that they didn't do anything to it that would make it more expensive (like getting rid of the hard drive for flash storage only or the retina display). Basically, glad they are keeping it and at the same price point and that some rumors of it just being the Air now or some of the rumor updates like retina display or flash only that would make it certain to be more expensive aren't true.

Dangit, so far from teh internals of the new one, I wish I could afford it, 756 GB of flash drive, up to 16 gb of Ram, fast processor with updated graphics card...

Yeah, no way I'm going to afford that but it definitely would be something I'd drool after (I like them keeping the 13" cause that's a lot more in my affordable range and usually I'd prefer 13" but with light and thin maybe I'd be fine with the 15").

Okay, 15 inch Retina display Macbook Pro, almost as thin as an Air, 2.7Ghz quad core, up to 16GB ram, a Geforce 650 (hopefully at least 1GB), with up to 7 hours battery life. I like to think of myself as all jaded and whatnot, but I have to admit I'm really impressed by that.

My only concerns are how hot it gets, and if you can upgrade the ram yourself or not.

Congratulations to macrumors on predicting this pretty accurately.

Let's recap: 17" gone, 15" "retina" with pixel doubling leading to the same low resolution the previous Mac Book "pro" sported (1400x900 or so?), lack of essential ports....

Just like any time I was ready to go Mac they disappoint. My 6 year-old Thinkpad has a better screen than that. Fail. Looks like I have to get another Thinkpad or HP and live with Win 7. Too bad. I really wanted to like the stuff this time. But their obsession with design and eliminating "legacy" ports gets me every time. Ignorant, arrogant, unprofessional latte sippers.

This just about clinches it. If the non-retina 15" MBP does NOT have a 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 option, I'm getting a 17" MBP MD311LL/A while I can.

1680x1050 is close, but not good enough. The retina MBP is just 1440x900 actual real estate, and apps have to be updated for retina otherwise they'll look like crap. No thanks. Maybe in a generation or two I'll jump, or when Apple lowers RAM prices.

Disappointing. Especially if the RAM is soldered in the retina MBP. This may be my final Mac for a while. I hate that the 17" is now gone.

At this point, I hope I don't know what I'm talking about and my opinions are wrong. I hope I'm misunderstanding something.

True, but it also demonstrates how Apple is no fully focused on consumer grade gadgetry that appeals to kids, soccer moms, football dads - everyone but people who need professional grade screens and hardware. Hell, if their traffic is even almost as good as Google's it would be better (when I have cellphone service, Navigon I have the map on my phone) because Navigon's traffic reporting (which you pay extra for) is absolutely useless. Errr... 2880x1800.That's pixel density, but not pixel real estate. His point is a fair one. Although clarity is pristine, you've effectively only got 1440x900 pixels to move about in. As someone who uses the "high res" 15" option Apple has been offering the last few years, I'm going to have to see the Retina in person before I can make a decision. 1440x900 is very, very small.

Not really. Look at the details behind this technology. Special "apps" (I hate the word) will now integrate hi def video and other nonsense. But the actual screen elements, etc all get duplicated. I don't see how I'll be able to use Lightroom 3 or 4 on this any time soon in a meaningful way. There is no gain here. In fact, it's an effective loss. But they won't clearly tell you this and keep touting the 2880x1800 and "retina" lingo to suck in the Starbucks latte sipping crowds who obviously are willing to ooh and aah and anything with the Apple logo. This is a huge step back. I don't even want to know how this thing will work with any color calibration software and hardware given the pixel duplication.

I really hope it's not all the way til October :(.

I don't understand. Wont the desktop be in 2880 1800 res? Can I play diablo at that high of a res or is there something im missing.

I didn't understand the resolution doubling of D3 either. Shouldn't the engine scale to whatever resolution we want? Or are they saying that the engine is rendering at 2880x1800 while displaying at 1440x900?

Overall, I thought the software demonstrated was really underwhelming. Obviously it's too early to say for sure until we get to play with iOS6 and ML, but I didn't find any of the improvements to be all that exciting

Take away the new maps features and basically you have the lamest WWDC of recent times.

VERY dissapointed with the lack of fundamental changes to iOS itself. Give the users what they really want, customization, widgets, freedom!!!

booo :(

A half inch icon is a half inch icon, no matter if it's 64x64 or 128x128. Even though the screen is crisper and clearer, you've still got the same interface space as a regular oldschool 15" Macbook Pro.

So if someone found Photoshop to be too cramped at 1440x900, they'll still find it cramped at 2880x1800. It'll just look prettier.

Rarely. The game needs to specifically support whatever resolution you are trying to use.

Hopefully you can turn off the traffic crowd-sourcing from your own phone, if you're low on data plan left for the month.

Yes, Diablo 3 has been updated for Retina, and with that GPU you should be able to play fine, maybe not with AA, but who needs it at that res?

I have a question, I don't remember last WWDC, do they only do keynotes and announcements on the first day? so there's no chance for iMac or Mac Pro updates later this week?

Apple Maps! Looks like I've finally got access to something as good as Google Maps on Android now!

As good? No street-view, seemingly poor reviews integration (perhaps better than they showed), no offers integration, and it isn't clear how well the traffic integration will work. It is definitely a good first step, but it definitely doesn't look as good as Google Maps for Android just yet.

Agreed... purely speaking for privacy concerns, they BETTER provide opt-out options, or frankly, I will NOT upgrade my 4S.

Clearly there were some things unsaid, but I agree with this. I'm not even that interested in iOS 6. Navigation is nice, but it has been done.

And Mountain Lion appears to be more like a service pack.

I think the 3D view depending on how they are doing it may very well be a decent replacement for street view (depending on if they just model the buildings or actually get photo realistic skins for the buildings).

True, but it's a helluva lot closer than what it has been. And it's lightyears beyond what we've currently got on iOS.

In big cities, yeah. But out in backwoods country? Right now they can't match Google on that front. I've seen Street View take panoramic shots down weird dirt roads no one in their right mind would normally travel down. It's great for finding weird stuff out in the middle of nowhere.
