ok, currently i'm using a hp ps735 digital camera. 3.2mp, 3x zoom. it's a total POS and i'm looking to upgrade to an SLR type camera. at first i thought about a eos 300 or 350 but then i realized after spending all the cash on the camera+a lens, i'd have nothing left to spend on more lenses, thus defeating the purpose of getting an interchangeable lense camera. i then thought about a coolpix 8800, but after some review-reading, and using it in a store, it's slow and doesn't feel good in my hand. so i've settled on one of the ones in the title. keep in mind i'll be buying in a couple months, but would like to know in advance what i'm buying so i know how much i'll need to save, and things like that.
panasonic lumix fz20. 5mp, 12x zoom, ~manual controls. $499, bhphotovideo.com
pros:
uses sd media, and i already have a few cards lying around, but i'd still get a 1gb one
cheaper than powershot pro
lense in center of camera (think this is good:confused: )
longer zoom
cons:
"only" 5mp
a bit bigger although with the long zoom maybe that's good (havent used one)
uses sd media
no RAW support
canon powershot pro1. 8mp, 7x zoom, ~manual controls. $619, bhphotovideo.com
pros:
higher resolution
"l" series lens
top lcd
feels good in my hand
"flip and twist" lcd, with higher resolution than panasonic's
RAW support
cons:
more expensive
shorter zoom
i'd love to hear opinions from people with experience with either of these cameras, and/or any thoughts. i've read the reviews at dpreview.com, and they both sound really good, i'm just not sure it's worth the $120 leap, or whether i'll need the extra features of the powershot. i'd also love to hear of any other cameras i should consider.
:)
Alex
PS: sorry if this is in the wrong forum.
