This sounds like fun! Maybe we could have a sweepstake!
- 12" model will have 1.5GHz G4, 14" model will have 1.67GHz G4. Both will have 167MHz FSB.
- 512Mb standard. Probably all soldered onto the motherboard, leaving the second slot free, but I wouldn't bet on this.
- 12" model will have 40Gb hard drive, 14" model will have 80Gb.
- Some sort of video hardware upgrade. I don't have enough knowledge in this area to be specific, but I think it would be fair to assume that it will have 64Mb VRAM and support core image.
- An increase in display resolution and Superdrives across the line are possible, although I'm a bit less confident on these aspects.
- Built in bluetooth.
- Price drop of $US100 - 200.
- No change in form factor (even though it's overdue, they will wait for the Intel units before doing this).
If you're thinking that these specs are too close to the Powerbook, please bear in mind that I believe that the Powerbook will be updated at the same time. In terms of timing, I think that we'll be looking at Macworld Paris, or shortly after.

Give me a NON-reflective widescreen display with a brighter backlight - can't stand the glare off those reflective screens and they're useless in our Aussie sunlight.
Better graphics
Better battery life
Bigger HDD in the 12" model
Superdrive options across the board
Better speakers
Cheaper
More RAM
Better Keyboard

I find these specs unlikely, especially the CPU and GPU, cuz iBooks will be veru close to Powerbooks, even if PBs will go to e600 or whatever the new freescale cpu is called.

512 MB RAM 512 MB RAM

My educated guess is that the new iBooks will get:
1.33 GHz (12") and 1.42 GHz (14")
512 MB RAM on the MoBo.
40 GB HD at the low end.
GeForce FX5200 (64MB).
Bluetooth standard.
Possibility of BTO SuperDrive on 12".
Same "500" form factor.
Price drop of ~$100.
I'd like to see higher res. screens (1280x960), but I somehow doubt it will happen.
Widescreen is unforseeable.
I also want Apple to un-cripple the screen spanning.

I added that on as the far-out option.
However for the other ones, maybe with the option of a Combo drive on both of them for another £30 / $50 off the price, I think they need to have that type of specification to actually have a decent specification come the end of the year.

Ok, guys... First there will be no price drop becuase they dropped the price the last time they updated them. It was $1100, and they dropped to $999. So there is no way there will be a price drop. Also, there is no way there will be Superdrives standard in the 12". Here's the specs I think will happen:
1.33Ghz G4(12")
256MB RAM
40GB 5400RPM
Airport Extreme
Bluetooth built-in
64MB of VRAM

So by saying "no updates" you are saying that there will never be an update in the future?
This thread is not saying "iBook specs for next tuesday" but rather for the next updates, whenever they may come. This is either a stupid post or a bad joke.

Predictions for the next iBook. I take that to mean sometime soon, as in before intel. I don't believe there will be an update before the intel iBooks come out, sorry.
Could be though, just my opinions. In the occasion that there is an update I don't think they will change the graphics card, just a processor boost to 1.33ghz and the 40GB HD.

I think ITASOR was trying to say that it will be a while before they are updated. And because it will take so long, 'who knows?' and 'who cares?'. At least thats how I feel.

I find these specs unlikely, especially the CPU and GPU, cuz iBooks will be veru close to Powerbooks, even if PBs will go to e600 or whatever the new freescale cpu is called.
My expectation is that the Powerbooks will take on 1.8 - 2.0GHz processors, so my prediction for the iBook isn't completely out of the realm of possibility. However, having read other posts in this thread, I will concede that iBook updates in the 1.33 - 1.5GHz range are probably far more likely.

But the last update was in October of last year, and PC notebook prices seem to have come down significantly since then.

I think you miss understood me. I think it would be great if they updated the iBooks. I just think updates are so far away that no one can really guess with any accuracy what those updates will be. Maybe they will be updated tomorrow. Maybe they will be updated in January. Who knows. The actual update will be much more important than people's wild guesses. If you don't like my comments ignore them or just don't post.

I think that is the most likely thing to occur actually.
Regardless, whereas the iBook was a good deal 9 months ago, it isn't now compared to other laptops on the market. They'll sell them still because of the brand, but they'll get less switchers as time goes on - it is incredibly hard to resist a $699 laptop with better specifications than a $999 one, regardless of the OS and bundled software.
There will be iBook updates this year. Whether they are today, later this month, next month or at Paris I don't know, but they will come before the Intel transition.

I agree entirely. If Apple offers the most basic possible update, then it will be an increase in RAM to 512Mb and/or a very slight processor bump.
I also believe you are correct when you say that there will be one more update between now and the release of the Intel based iBooks. Of course, because none of us really know when the Intel based iBooks will be released, we have no reliable way of predicting when the next PowerPC machines will be released.

I would hate that! I really dont like widescreen that much, the only thing that I can think of it being good for is watching movies. Although there is other 12" widescreen laptops out there, i think that 12 is a little too small to have widescreens. I am perfectly content with Apple putting out widescreen laptops, but I hope that they still keep around the regular ones too.
