I'm guessing USB 3.0.

i'm guessing it for rebranding purpose to Apple USB Superdrive instead of SuperDrive for MBA. The reason being more Macs will be coming without the optical drive like the RMBP.

Looks like nothing much, if anything. Wish Apple would just let it work out of the box with any Mac, without resorting to trickery.

DVDA + no longer called "Macbook Air Superdrive", just "USB Superdrive".

Is this drive actually ONLY usable with an Air, or other Mac CPU that is lacking a built-in Superdrive? I mean, REALLY? Why would Apple apply such a restriction?

Does anyone have any first hand info as to whether or not this Superdrive will work with a computer that, say, has a Superdrive built in but the drive has gone buggy and doesn't work any more? How about with a M8573LL/A (1.25GHz DP G4 MDD)? I have a USB 2.0 card in one of the PCI slots that boots an external USB drive with OS 10.3 installed on it, so I would think it would work with any external USB drive.

Unless the Superdrive is proprietary, which brings me back to my original question...
