View Full Version : Buying a DVD-RW Drive

Hey Guys,

I don't know much about DVD-RW Drives and was wondering if you could recommend any external DVD-RW Drives for my eMac? Either USB 2 or Firewire is fine. I would prefer it to be very cheap. I've seen a Freecom one, but it doesn't say anything about supporting Mac OS X. Secondly, my brother (who is 5) has a few DVDs and he doesn't particularly take care of them and most of them are scratched. I was wondering if it was possible to copy DVDs (such as Toy Story 2) using Toast 6 Titanium onto DVD disks? This would be helpful as it would protect the master copies of disks, meaning if he scratches any disks they'll only be copies.

Lacie external DVD-RW drives are very nice and work well with makes. they usually also come bundled. they aren't that cheap, but you can find them at a good price.

to answer you question about toast just search the forums for "dvdbackup" and "mactheripper". google wouldn't be a bad place to search too. there are a lot of threads on that question.

I have changed my mind and decided I'm going to installed an internal DVD-RW. I have an eMac and I think I'm going to install the Pioneer 109. Is this one good?

The Pioneer 109 is a great drive. I know it's going for under $50 US at newegg.com. I'm not sure what you can get it for in the UK..

Ok, I've placed my order for a DVD-RW Pioneer 109 drive!

Is it hard to get inside the eMac?
