IBM and its super fast transistor : 350GHZ

I wonder how long it will take that technology to reach products consumer will use if ever. I suppose it's something that would be used in Cisco, Nortel, Juniper, or Lucent products. Maybe it's something they could adapt to the Power4 or ppc products.

Hahahaha! This product will never make it to consumers. A 2.5 GHz computer really only shows about a 75 MHz increase over a 1.5 GHz computer, definitely not as significant as a 1.5 GHz and a 500 MHz.

Do any of you have a clue to what you are posting about? This is a transistor not a cpu as stated in the title of the thread.

This is actually a very old news story that has been discussed a bunch of times. Also in the first paragraph it states that this 350GHz transistor is only 65% faster then current transistors. Therefore 350GHz is not that big a jump for a transistor. If this new transistor is 65% faster and runs at 350GHz then the transistors that it will replace are already running at 212Ghz. That is if you were to use GHz as the defining factor of transistor speed and it isn't.
