Hi,

I'm trying to do some shopping for my t.v. productions teacher at my high school, but I can't remember if a regular ATA drive would work in a PowerMac G5 1.6. I know the new G5's ship with serial ATA, but do I have to go with a serial ATA drive?

The 1.6GHz Power Mac does have one IDE connector that the optical drive connects to. Other than that, you could get a PCI controller card to hook up a non SATA HDD. Apple claims that you cannot use a SATA->IDE converter but some people have gotten them to work.
