Meh...who wants to be profficient in Windows? Wouldn't it be better to be profficient in Unix or Linux?

That's really neato. :D

I wish I had that much confidence when I was 9. I might not be sitting on my anus right now, but rather making money!

Congrats to the girl.

... but with certification of people this young (9 and 8 according to the article) it makes me wonder. I haven't seen any Linux/Unix ones happening in this age group. Exactly how hard it is to get a Windows certification? And is a Linux/Unix one harder to get?

Hmm...can a nine year old really be a Microsoft Pro? After all, I would not call the folks at Redmond pros - screw-ups, but not pros.

Guess, that I am just jealous  I mean, who does not wish that they were pros with windoze.

hmmm..
Maybe windows certification is given when you can beat a game of solitaire in under 10 minutes? That's the only thing windows users seem to do...

/has a mother that plays freecell for HOURS a day. I think that's why she won't switch to Mac! haha!

OK, OK I'll be good. I know that Windows is good for minesweeper, too! :p

being an MCP, i have what is considered one of the three easiest techinical certifications to achieve (MCP, CNA, A+) but that being said, it's not easy and i can't imagine a child so young passing anyone of those three tests

the more advanced certifications like red hat linux, CCNA/CCNP/CCIE, CNE, and microsoft's MCSA/MCSE are more geared towards professionals and advanced students in the high tech field and i think the youngest advanced certified techie is a 14 year old whiz kid MCSE from australia, or so i heard when i was and MCP student back in 2000

...many a computer science graduate from university have not been able to achieve those advanced certifications and some have not passed the MCP (but to be fair, college and techinical certifications require different skill sets just like an electrical engineer is not automatically an electrician, or an aeronautical engineer is not automatically a pilot) and often in the real world, the non college techie can get paid more than the college degreed techie

Congratulations Arfa Karim, a Pakistani virtuoso of Microsoft. She will have a very bright career ahead of her. That would be quite a coup it she became a switcher.

Why hasn't anyone told her about mac??

I suppose on the upside, there will be a lot of problems to fix, so she can easily get a good income, just from repairing virus/spyware infected pc's ;)

My mother is a Freecell addict too. She has an iBook now and a copy of Freecell for OS X (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/20460) which is remarkable similar to the Windows version - even has the same game numbers. ;)

Hell, with everything going on out there I would probably stay inside too and learn everything about a computer. But anyways, those Middle Eastern people are crazy smart, I'm not surprised at all.

I'm proud of her, but I'm scared - we're going to have hackers at 5 years old NOOOOOOOOOOOOO lol. A very good achievement, the thing that is just awesome IMO, is it was a a girl, you would think it would have been a boy, but it was a girl - way to go.

It's great that she got a certification, however as far as computer certification goes, I wouldn't put that much stock in seeing her think outside the box.

Well, I don't know about you, but if I was offered a job at Microsoft, and the pay was good, I would take it in an instant.

Is MCP similar to A+? I have A+ cert. but thus far have not had to urge to get MCP. Maybe this will change my mind...I'm 6 years her elder, so I imagine I can do it.

Really? I could not stand working for a company like "evilsoft". M$ would fire me on the day that I was hired for complaining about how much windows sucks and Mac OS rocks!

They would kick you out as soon as they saw your iBook, "Sorry, no computers that work are permitted on these grounds."

the CompTIA A+ is the industry's key hardware certification, and the MCP is the initial microsoft certification covering either the os, a microsoft software product, or programming

the A+ certification is one you really only need to achieve once, yet retaking A+ every few years keeps you in the loop of technology...the MCP has to get certified every few years in order to partake in microsoft's benefits and perks given to MCPs

Unfortunatelym not if you look at market share. I'm quite profficient with both windows and mac osx (if i do say so myself), but Ive never had to share my knowledge of OSX, but daily have to solve problems with Windows. Still keeps the money rolling in, so I dont care :)

Damn Pakistanis are taking all of our jobs!
