Is anyone else going to go to the opening?
It opens in july 30th, at 10 AM.
I'm leaving my house at 6, to be in line by 7. (I live an hour away!! Eep!)
Just curious if any other Houston/Woodlands/Texan macrumorerers are going to it.

The woodlands is NOT Houston.
Bellaire is Houston. West U is houston.
The woodlands is like.. FREAKING IN DALLAS!!
For some reason, it bothers me that people say "yah, I'm from houston!" and I ask where, then they say "the woodlands"
It's like.. FOREVER AWAY! it's so not houston!
Like, "I live in Houston.. Just a little east... In louisiana. It's only an Hour drive!"
Enjoy my map!!! :) :)
iSaint If I win another PowerBook, I'm not going to even open it. I'll immediately sell it for $ for vienna and college. I'm keeping this one.. I love it! I hope if I win one, it's a 17 inch-er! I could get so much $$ for it! ROCK! (17 is just.. TOO BIG!!)
If I somehow win a PowerMac G5 with dual 2.7s.. OH MAN. SCREW VIENNA, I NEED RAM!!!
I mean...
Yeah, I'll stick to my original statement.

I'm from NW Houston and that map is hysterical. Actually I don't consider the Woodlands too far out - especially since you can drive for three hours and still be in the freakin' city. Most people have NO concept of how big Houston is.
I think Houston is the fourth largest city in the U.S. by population, but it is the largest city in the country by geographic size. It's h-u-g-e. I'm living in Sacramento now and I try not to laugh when they say "rush hour" here. Houstonians are overjoyed if they can get anywhere in under an hour.
Hmm... maybe I'll fly back to Houston for this opening.
Holy crap - now I know I'm a geek.
:D
Have fun!

I am probably going, but I have a few Questions:
1. Where is the store opening, parking?, where will the line start (of course I would like to get there early)?
2. What are they giving away? Is there any way to tell? If not, what do they typically give away? How many shirts? Ipods? Computers? Tiger (still need this on my Feb. '05 pb)? Other software?
3. Is it a "lottery" system, or is there a great benefit to being there several hours before?
4. What is a typical store opening like?
Thanks for your help, I haven't been to a store opening.

1. Dont know
2. Most stores dont unless there a huge flagship store only give away tee shirts.
edit: they typicly give away a iMac G5, Cannon DV camcorder & printer (but its a month long promotion)
edit 2: Enter the Grand Opening Sweepstakes to win a Digital Lifestyle Collection valued at $2350. The winner will receive a 17-inch flat-panel iMac G5 with Combo drive (DVD-ROM/CD-RW), an iPod mini, a Canon PowerShot SD400 digital camera, a Canon ZR100 digital camcorder, and an Epson Stylus R200 printer. No purchase necessary. Submit your entry from July 30 through August 30. See official rules and details.
3. Not sure what you mean but the benifit for getting there early is so you dont have to wait 45mins to get inside the store and you get to chat with the people around you that love macs too.
4. Most store openings have the manager come out to great everyone then you come inside and all the employees are enthusiastic and give out highfives. Then when you leave you get your shirt. (im not sure if this is common but the woodland mall (mich) opening the employees came out an hour before the opening were yelling and running around the lines gettin everybody excited)
I think the grand openings are always fun.

Apparently the Woodlands store is supposed to be the Flagship store for TX, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. (I read that on.. some apple website. I can't remember it)
There's this empty store about 1.2 miles away from my house. It's been "for rent" for a looong time. Every time I drive/walk by, I tell my mom "hey! I think they're gonna build an Apple store there!"
She just rolls her eyes, but imagine what kind of trouble and fun I'd get into if I had an apple store within walking distance!!
I'd be SO employed.

I live like 5 minutes away from the mall because I live in the Woodlands (am I the only one?). How are we suppose to wait in line in front of the store when the mall opens at 10? Are we going to meet somewhere? Email: jtkellertx@gmail.com
I like the idea of the Woodlands Apple Store, honestly out of all the people I know only 2 people have bought Macintosh computers recently (within 3 years) and everybody else has bought iPods because they got their parents to buy them one.
Flagship store? That would mean SUPRISE BAGS!!!!

All the more reason they need one in Fort Worth.

No they're keeping it, so there will be two Apple Stores within 5 minutes of each other once Northpark opens. I too think they need some in Tarrant county. Southlake is a good start, but Arlington would be a good place to put one as well. However, the last word from ifoapplestore.com says though that the next likely D/FW location (after Northpark & Southlake open that is) is going to be at the Dallas Galleria.

Wow, 4 stores in Dallas/Plano. Maybe that is why the lady over apple retail (the one that used to be with Ralph Lauren) left, or was asked to leave. There is absolutely no reason for that, but maybe they want to have a presence in every major mall. It just doesn't seem like something Apple would do.

Shoot, D/FW is still underserved even with 4 or 5 Apple stores compared to some other major metro areas in the country. D/FW could easily support 6-8 stores area wide I believe considering that it's now either the 6th or 7th largest metro area in the entire country depending on who's survey you look at.

Yeah, I agree we need the stores, I just think Apple could do a better job of spreading them out. Arlington, Mid-Cities, Fort Worth, etc. Maybe they will do this, but it looks like they are just putting a store every 5 miles in Dallas. I don't want to complain though, it is nice to have a store within 30 minutes driving distance (Knox st.). Alot of people don't have that.

Pretty good chance that it's like any other mall, and it opens it's doors a few hours early, for the mall walkers. So, we should get plenty of funny looks by the power walkers and the grannies :)
Less than 12 hours, and I should be meeting you fine folks down there for some Apple goodness.

For the record, it's not "Woodlands, TX" -- it's "THE Woodlands, TX"...eh...gag
Also, I agree with those who said that "The Woodlands" is part of Dallas (of course, I'm from a town southeast of Houston...we consider anyone north of I-10 to be "yankees")...takes for ever to drive there especially if anyone else is on I-45. But, other than golf and concerts, I guess there's one more reason to make the trek now.
For you San Antonio folks upset about Houston having two stores. Consider that driving from the store at the Galleria to the new one in The Woodlands probably takes the same amount of time as driving from San Antonio to the Austin Store (isn't there one at Barton Creek Mall now?).

I would LOVE to go to a grand opening of an Apple Store, especially if it was in Appleton :D . But of course that won't be happening any time soon because the world hates me, but I can hope gosh darnit!

The Woodlands to Downtown Houston takes less than half and hour. If it's near anything, it would be near Conroe.

damn. this is exciting. great marketing for apple. i think the woodlands is the logical and smart choice to put the next apple store in houston. i think the one at the galleria was a nice flagship store, but for being close to the 3rd largest city in the nation, it's about time apple infiltrated the market a bit more here. the galleria store although nice, lacks the size i wouldve thought could accomadate the demand of apple users in a larger city. plus, although there are sizzlin' chicks at the galleria mall, models are covered all over the woodlands mall! plus, now it will be so nice to go hit up the apple store before going to rock out at the woodlands pavillion. kudo's apple.

Thanks for the patches, Katie. Sorry I just walked up out of nowehere and walked away, but my friend was back in line by himself with my iBook, and I was scared of what he might do (he beiing a Windows guy and all :)).
Anyways, it was nice meeting you and talking to you for a bit, and your mom is such a nice person for coming along with you.
Overall, the store was incredible. So many people, and I think we scared most of the mall workers with the amount of Macheads that showed up. So tired now...must sleep..zzzzzzz....

holy patootie, that was FUN.
1. Le window display
2. There's nothing to do other than surf the internet and watch the window guy
3. Still watching the window guy. He did an AWESOME job. Freaking cleanest glass I've ever seen!
4. Queueing up. The white shirt guy was first in line, he got there at 6:20 and sat in his car until 7.
5. This little kid started banging on the door, saying "LET ME IN!" You should have seen ALL the people getting out cameras to take his pic. HE WAS SO ADORABLE!! *pinches cheek*

1. Entering a sweepstake. I hope I win. I need vienna money. Although, my mom said that if we win, she'll switch to Mac. *FINGERS CROSSED!* She was the first to put in her card, I was 2nd, hehe.
2. Flight attendant Tim. He's a MR lurker (hi, tim! *waves*) and I caught him unknowingly talking about me TWICE! First was me AWESOME map of where the woodlands REALLY is, and the 2nd was that poor, poor girl who won the PowerBook at Houston Galleria. My reputation precedes me! I gave him a GMail account, and showed him the awesome Gmailpop widget. We both whipped out our PowerBooks for Gmailness. I'm his first Gmail buddy! haha (HEY! Join MacRumors already! Lurker!! :D :D)
3. INSIDE THE STORE! HOLY PATOOTIE! IT'S TWICE THE SIZE OF HOUSTON GALLERIA. IT'S FREAKING HUGE!
4. More of the Crowd.
5. So many green shirts!! The clerks here are REALLY AWESOME. I wish I could come here all the time. :( (I'm sooo not doing the hour-drive.)

I took advantage of the free Chick Fil A sandwich and the Godiva store giving out free chocolate drinks...yum.
Yes. I am a freak, but didn't wait in the line for almost 3 hours, and then not buy anything. I only stood there for 75 minutes, and then didn't buy anything. :) Wasn't able to convice my Windows friend to purchase any apple merchandise either (maybe when they open a College Station, TX store...)

Hah! Small towns in Mississippi don't have Apple openings! Maybe one within six hours of me will open someday. Memphis is 3 hours and they already have one...Atlanta is 4 hours, been to that one. My iPod broke the other day. I almost drove to Memphis just to go there, but sent it back to Apple (getting replacement Monday - one week service, awesome).
thanks for the pics KT, awesome fun. What did you get in the box? Did they not give scratch off cards? ...or was that what the sweepstakes was? And where's pics of mom? She's the hero here, getting up to take you over there that early. Hope you find good veggie food and feel better.

I was gonna get the iClear, but then you mentioned Fry's and my friend wanted to go, so I figured I'd wait for there. Then, we ended up hanging at the mall too long, and I had to get back home.
All in all, I had a great time. Good company, great merchandise, tasty free food and excellant Apple products to play with.
By the way, did you see all the Younglings? ;) Get 'em started early....

The box was our shirt. I'm wearing mine right now.. they only came in XL. I'm SWIMMING in it. It comes halfway down my thigh.
No scratchoff cards, but we all did get a free chick fil a sammich. I gave it to the woman behind me in line. :) Sweepstakes is for iMac g5 with a buttload of canon stuff (printer, digicam, digicamcorder)
Mom doesn't like pictures. She thinks cameras steal your soul.

As for a MR, I did do the obligitory thing for apple store visits and opened up Thinsecret on a safari browser really quickly. It was real quick b/c I was at the studio when i did it and an Apple Guy came up right as the page loaded. :D

In fact, here are the two of us. Thanks to whoever took the picture. I'm the one standing, for an apple store, I don't look too happy. :( My friend wanted a video of the line to send to his girlfriend.
He took it with his iSight.
I bought my first iSight at the store that day.
Mom/Dad got one too.
I'm happy now.
Then I think how my mom will be video chatting with me and reading my away messages when I'm at college.
I'm sad now.
