So i just recently purchased a macbook air, and i know SSD is not currently upgradable. But i thought id start a discussion on when everybody thinks it will be and even if someone had luck in upgrading it?

I have 120gb SSD and its already down to 60GB remaining which will be killed when school starts back up because i get all ebooks and stuff

but anyways anybody hear any news on when people will sell the SSD for new macbook airs ?

OWC is probably the best bet for bringing compatible SSDs to market.

While our current Aura Pro Express SSDs are NOT compatible with these new machines, we ARE full steam ahead on bringing new models to market that will feature these new connectors.

If they made them they'd be over $1000

They do make 1TB SSDs, but not in the MBA form factor. Last time I looked, it was a bit over 1100 in a 2.5" form factor.

[edit]
I can't find them at 1100 currently. The best I can find is 960GB for 1270 at OWC.

After I looked at the prices of aftermarket ssd's for last years model it didn't seem that bad to just get the 512 option from Apple at time of purchase and not have to think about it later. I would expect it will be just as pricy when aftermarket drives become available for 2012 models given the proprietary design.

As far as I remember, OWC 480 GB 6G blades were $1179 or so when first released. I paid $500 for a 240GB 6G upgrade a couple of months ago.

I expect the new ones to be expensive.

Anyone want to share their experiences with the OWC Aura 6Gs w/ MBA 2012? I've been thinking about upgrading from 128 to 240, but the mixed and largely negative reviews here and other sites have been putting me back.

SSD upgrades are expensive, but an easy way to add more storage is a USB flash drive or a SD card. They aren't flush but they do the job :)
