List of available parts are in a post further down

I'm selling my G5. Why? Honestly I love this thing. But I have a MacBook and don't really need it I guess. Plus I can use the money from it to buy a cheap bass :o.
I'm asking $235. I know, I know. Its a lot. But I did upgrade it a bit. The specs are:
Dual 2.0ghz G5 processors.
4gb ram (upgradable to 8gb).
64gb boot ssd.
160gb storage hdd.
Super drive.
Nvidia geforce Fx 5200 64mb.
Mac OS X 10.5.
I added a 4 port USB 2.0 PC card.
I'm only including the tower.
Is this a fair price? I have the bidding starting at $210 with the $235 buy it now (I'd gladly take $210, but no one is bidding :()
NOTE TO MR STAFF: I am in no way trying to sell this through Mac rumors. I am only asking for advice. If there is a problem here please contact me before closing/banning me. Thanks

Is this the same G5 you recently bought and upgraded and asked questions about on MacRumors?

Yes. I mostly bought it thinking I would use it a lot. Turns out I didn't! I did the same with a g4 last year, but I borrowed it from a friend. I just like playing with apple stuff I guess!
But yes, doesn't see much use (other than playing the Sims and watching videos.)
I will only make $30 on it if it sells (SSDs were really expensive when I bough the one I used) and that's a good profit to me. If I could buy some bigger hard drives I would probably keep it. But I don't have enough money to support all of my hobbies. So I have to cut down where I can :(

Dude your machine is totally useful and you're throwing it all away? It seemed as if you put a lot into the machine and were pretty excited to get it. Already getting rid of it because it isn't useful? Come on! My machine has lower spec (single core) and I still find it completely useful when handled logically. You cannot expect to much from these things as they have aged, but they're still good for light computing, and (my favorite) retro gaming.

I dont think that's too high at all! After all, a 32 GB iPhone 4S costs more!
I'd buy it, but saving for iPhone 5.

Its not that I don't find it useful, but I just can accomplish everything I can on it on my MacBook with a mini dp adaptor (to use the larger screen) I was excited. Very excited. But I realized there's nothing that I can really do differently on this. Performance is the same as my MacBook (I know, its not but for what I do it is.) I can even watch YouTube videos quite smoothly (watched a 1 & 1/2hr concert yesterday without a problem)
The reason I'm selling it is so I can buy a cheap bass to fool around with. The way I'm thinking is why put my eggs in one basket? If I have two Macs and only can use one at a time there's no point! Now I can enjoy my favorite hobby (computers) and have some fun with another one! I wish I can keep this beast and buy the bass, but its impossible unless I get a job. Which isn't likely!
Also I wanted $250 for it. But the auction wasn't getting any traffic so I went down. I just want to sell this before I change my mind!

I see, and understand what you're saying. Makes sense. We all have our different prioritites. Haha. I just find the fact that I can use such an aged machine cool in a "gotta have the latest gadget" world. I mean, my G5 is only 8 years old, but my G4 is 13. :D
By the way, if you do end up keeping your machine and getting a bass/instrument, you'll find that GarageBand is pretty good on these G5's. I recorded multiple tracks the other night with my guitar, bass, vocals, and MIDI (for drum track) and it was pretty damn good.

I plan on using garage band on my MacBook. I used it on my g5 to test record extremely simple bass. Using the musical typing and... a guitar hero controller :p it turned out pretty good and performance was comparable to the MacBook. I was surprised at the performance. I am new to garage band but hope I can figure it out!
I want to use my ion rocker drum set and record from it (put rock band into free drum or whatever and take a speaker output from my to to the mic input) its not the best but it'll do. Then I can do some bass. Maybe I'll pick up that cheap rock band mustang "guitar" to fool around with in garage band. You've just inspired me!
Anyway, around 20hrs left and no bids :(

That's what I'm worried about.... that's eBay's price though. If you can give me a zip code and city I can check how much it would really be
Here is a link for anyone that is interested. Once again if this isn't allowed let me know. Please contact me with a zip code and city with state for a discounted shipping quote.

Surely you stated the item's worth when you arranged the courier - giving you insurance if the item is broken in transit?

I don't know if this is still the case, but I shipped a laptop five years ago by UPS in Canada. When I asked about insurance, they insisted that they only insured against loss, not breakage, since they had no idea what the condition of the item in the package is. A reasonable point, I thought, but it always makes me cross my fingers hard and over-pack as much as I can when I ship something for an Ebay auction.

Didn't quite have enough to insure all of it! Only $100 worth. And UPS sucks at insurance claims.. I'm going to send him a label so he can ship it back. I'll part it out and hopefully get something back :(

I used super strong blubblewrap and paper based padding stuff. I also covered it in plastic to protect it from scratches.
Also, anyone in need of g5 parts, PM me. I will have the computer back by next week.

Yeah, bubble wrap and paper padding aren't what you need. You need something with a bit more give like the original packing foam, or not-as-good-but-still-decent lots of packing peanuts.
If you use something that doesn't allow shifting, any compressions in the box are to smash the machine.
The machine really should have at least 2 inches between it and the box on all sides of a material with give in it.

Ouch! The outside damage is not that surprising; G5s are hard to pack and ship. The inside damage, though, is BRUTAL!
Sorry that happened to you. :(

The thing is I don't see how the bottom legs could have broken like that. I stacked cardboard up inside of it. That computer had to have been dropped from 10 ft at least. This is the last time I'm shipping with UPS. At least not fragile parts.
Funny thing is I just got my bass two days ago and that box was torn open. Luckily nothing was broken. UPS is really terrible, IMHO.

What did UPS do to that machine? Was it ran over by a truck? I think I do know the hard drive's SATA pins were broken like that. When you posted pictures of the inside before you shipped it, notice the drive latch for the B drive isn't down like it should be. It may have been ship with the latch up. Allowing the drive to move in and out of its caddy and stressing the SATA cable to the point of breaking. If the latch was down when shipped, that should not have happened.

Ok that makes sense. Well the drive wasn't a big loss to me as its hard to sell old drives (at least for me)
Still, I have no idea how the bottom was ripped apart like that. And the bottom getting dented makes no sense either.
Does anyone know how much I should charge for each part? I have never parted out a g5.

If the superdrive is still in okay condition, I'll take it if it would fit in a 1.8 machine. :D. Mine doesn't work too well.
Did it have an airport card, or no? Just let me know how much you want.

OK thanks. He said he would reinforce it so hopefully it'll work out.
I think I'm going to fix the case the best I can and make something out of it. If I can't do anything at least I'll have a large cheese grater. And the cheese can be held inside! Or a cat bed... the list goes on an on.
Anyway, I'm going to try to boot it when it gets here to test the cpus. If they work, how much does anyone think I can get?

I've shipped many PMG5s with UPS. You must allow them to pack it in order to have full insurance.
G5's are built to have the case sturdy. If the bottom legs are broken or uneven, the machine will sway when in use.
Don't ever skip insurance. I would've insured for 500.

The strange thing is it only went from Scranton PA to Philadelphia PA. Only 4 (?) Hours away! That's what really makes this so messed up. Well I've learned my lesson. UPS has lost a customer... not to show them to be more careful, just because I don't trust them.

Both processors were recognized, the ram worked, video card, ssd, logic board, power supply, and front panel stuff all works. The fans work too. I have a video of it booting and proof of the processors working. I was only on it for a few seconds (no fans pointing to the processors  )
