No "X" button in Launchpad

Hi, I'm currently attempting to remove an application, I know I could just move the application to the trash folder, but I've tried to remove it using Launchpad, however after holding a click on the icon, no "X" button is appearing.

What are the reasons for this?

I should have said what application I was removing as it wasn't a built in application. But thanks anyway.
