Heheh.... nice ": D"

The new iBooks are pretty tempting. I'd get one now, except there are still a couple small issues for me:

1) Battery Life: Is Apple working on better battery technology? The "5 hours" that I've heard thrown around has been as little as 1 hour for some people. Are the battery issues even a big deal?

2) Performance: Is an 800MHz G3 sufficient to run OS X totally smoothly and quickly? All the G3s I've run into are sub-400MHz and don't support QE, plus I've got a 400MHz G4 PCI at home, so it's hard for me to make a comparison on performance of newer generation G3s.

One of these days I'll drive my lazy @ss down to CompUSA or the Apple Store and try out the new iBooks to see for myself.

I bought a powerbook just after the last announcement, so upgrading now would be too soon.

The basic differences as I see them on the new books iis a 20% faster clock speed, a faster GPU with twice the ram, and a slower harddrive. Oh yeah, and the superdrive.

Nothing I'm doing will be affected by the GPU, so the clock speed by itself is not worth it right now. And I have an iMac G4 for burning DVD's.

I'll probably be looking at an upgrade in a year to eighteen months. Unless Apple surpises us much sooner with a much faster system.

If the new $999 iBook had a cd burner, apple would have had my money already, but it doesnt so I'm undecided. I'll probably get the next up iBook, but the thing is I don't need too much from a laptop, it will be mostly a word processor away from home and other simple things like that (maybe some graphics and webstuff) but my mac at home will still be my main machine so that's why the $999 price tag sounded so good. ah well, if I wait for a month or two apple will probably upgrade that $999 iBook to a cdburner anyways, that's how they usually do thing right?

I ordered the 1GHz Superdrive'd, 1GB RAM PowerBook yesterday........

My original upgrade window was Jan to Feb 2003, but as Apple have fullfilled the necessary performance criteria on this release, (the've more than doubled the performance of my current PowerBook G4 500MHz) I decided that there's unlikely to be any new PowerBook release until April/May next year, so why not buy now....... I'm expecting a huge performance leap over my existing PowerBook that I've provisionally sold today, so I can't wait to see and feel the difference!!

I'm not buying my PowerMac though until the next generation of cpu's are installed under the hood........ :)

I HAD to have the ti 800! Oh well. I bought mine over the summer during the Jag-wire launch party. However I did get a tremendous price for it. $2848 plus tax! And it included 10.2 but it wasn't preloaded so I had to install it. Ordinarily it would have cost about $3390. It is sweet though and have had it for a few months now with no problems including no pixel anomalies. I am happy with it but I know I should have just waited until the next rev and then buy. Such is life.

hey guys! i just ordered a 1 GHz TiBook with everything max except just a combo drive. $2,839.00 at the apple store. pretty sweet. if only i lived in Oregon, i could prove superfoo right and buy a powerbook for less than 3000$... as it is, i am really happy anyway. i will be able to stop using windows XP in just weeks! yes! anyhow, i am curious as to speculation on these things. i have heard from the retailers these won't be coming around till the end of november, but apple says they are shipping in mid november... when do you guys think apple will start shipping them out to customers who have ordered?

If I only had money.

I am going to make a modernized version of the wizard of oz, and instead of having a scarecrow saying 'If I only had a brain' I wll have myself saying, 'If I only had some money'. I haven't figured out the details yet... ;)

i'd say "if you had a brain, you'd have money," but then i'd be insulting me too.... my advice to you: find a really good friend with a lot of money who wants to throw it at you despite your modesty. it worked for me :D

I'm replacing my iBook 600 Combo with a 800 (ordered today). QE, faster burning and 30GB HD do make a difference!

I would buy one except for the following
1.) not in the market for a notebook, my 400 Pismo is trusty enough still
2.) my 2 month old (wow! hard to beleve) Dual 867 G4 burned a serious hole in my savings

If i was shopping for one, I would probably get a 1 GHz Ti.

Please send me is email, or his adress, or anything so I can get in contact with him. I would like some money thrown at me :D... WHO IS THIS GUY?!?!?!?

I guess I could find someone... Michael Dell's daughter used to go to my school, but she was about 4 years below me. Too bad, I would suck up to her sooooooooo much. It is kind of funny. At my old school's festivities all the parents would try to sit next to Michael dell, because he was always there. It would have been interesting if my family got to know his.

But I doubt he would give me money to buy an apple... hehe :D:D:D

I once gave away a PowerBook G3 (WallStreet) only about 6 months after buying it because I was disappointed with it and those people would be happier since their main machine was really old.

I'm really interested in the iBook for $1299 but I'd still like to have a G4 machine.

ahhh, you guessed wrong, she's a woman who manages a 15-person company that negotiates lighting for walmart... fairly lucrative sort of business in good times. her husband's family has a ranch there too, i visit a few times a year to ride horses. it's crazy fun. and now i will be able to take my computer with me!

anyways, yeah, michael dell seems like a really cool guy. not overly greedy, but really good at doing business. and fairly down to earth. my sister literally ran into him at a backstreet boys concert in Austin where he had taken his daughter and a ton of her friends. but he definitely wouldn't buy you an apple. shoot, my dad works for dell, and he advised me to "cancel my order" for the powerbook because dell has "some cool stuff planned" for the future of its mobiles. they also think those **** tablet PCs are stupid and intend not to sell any. anyways, let me think of something on topic to say really fast.

i didn't buy apple care. maybe i'll get it at the end of 1 year. am i stupid?
