Honestly depends on what you want for it. If you're just a basic word processing and surfing net then it's fine:

949-179 student union ipod (assuming you will sell it) = $770 vs $415

for $355 you're missing:

20 gigs
128ram the ram is also 200 mhz slower
G4 proccessor that is 833mhz faster
built in bluetooth
RAdeon 9550 with 32 ram vs 8
slower usb 1.1
built in airport express
Panther instead of Tiger

If you don't need that stuff then you're good to go

feel like you may have paid a bit much, but if it runs well and it does what you need, then a working laptop is well worth that.

(sorry if i dissapoint you at all I am kinda in a mega-cheap mindset, as I am hoping to get one of these in a couple of weeks...( http://www.henrico.k12.va.us/) :D

it's not a terrible deal...on the other hand, if you haven't paid yet... you might want to not pay for it lol. the first comparison posted (new ibook vs. this one) wasn't entirely fair, though. it should be:

$949 (student discount) + $179 = 1128

1128* 1.08 (can't forget about taxes) = ~$1220

$1220 - $150 (amount of money you could get for the iPod mini on eBay) - $179 (rebate for iPod mini) = $890.

So you pay around $890 if you take that route...if you're a student. That makes it a $475 difference between your computer and the new ibook.
