Senseless question... Delete the software you don't use and other temporally stuff that eats up space that the OS might have created but are non-vital to the functioning of the system.
how would reinstallling lion free more space?
and why not just answer the question...do u have a new macbook air?

Yes, reinstalling Lion gets rid of some of the (possibly unnecessarily) installed software that comes as part of the default install.
If you reinstall Lion, these applications will be removed.
Nothing is wrong.

No, there's nothing wrong there... Just because it's a "new computer" everyone can have different stuff installed on it ( and different versions of the same stuff ) by default. If you need more space, then remove / uninstall the unneeded stuff as previously mentioned.

go to Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility so see the info for yours
or 'About This Mac'/Storage
my Applications, Library and System Folders take up a total space of approx 12gb - with only what I use installed - the rest deleted.
so my free space would be 99gb before adding Documents, Music, etc.
at 97gb you're doing ok with all the standard Apps installed
to reinstall Lion and then the Applications you use would not save you a whole heap of space.

the osx takes up about 8gb right?
so wouldnt this mean that all new macbook users with 120gb would have around 97gb of storage by default as sooon as they turn their computer on?
when is first turned it on i had 104GB after a fresh install and using monolingual i had around 110GB
