could a third-party macbook charger damage my laptop?

i am currently using a third-party charger for my macbook because the old one shorted, it looks like it except it is bigger, i have the 2006 macbook model, could using this charger somehow damage my computer?😕
 
I guess if it provided too much power it could blow something inside the power jack/logic board. I'd risk it though 🙂
