now that we have a sub-$1,000 dollar laptop, do we need a low price tablet?
Not really, as it would be a lame-duck.
Where would it fit in the Apple lineup?
Why would anyone want to use it instead of an iBook?
And who the hell would want to use a stylus instead of a keyboard?

it would be a niche item, an extremely small niche item and not do very well. The only way it would work is if Apple made it a built to order item for the most part and made it available at a price.
And I have no doubt there would be plenty of people to order one at the premium that it would cost. But as a viable market item, it wouldn't really make all that much of an impact.

I agree hitman about it not being necessary, and with duke about it being a niche item. Not being necessary, and having fewpeople buying them add up to bad sales. It would be a bad move by apple, but I would love to test one out. But, like most people, I have no use for one, and if I were to get a portable computer, I would get a laptop.
I think it would be neat as a technology demo...
But not as a full-fledged product...

Hmmmmmmmmmm.................. I'd like to see Apple evolve it somewhat...... I know that I type faster than I can write (well legibilty wise anyway.. heh heh)
I'd like to see Apple maybe work with the technology, but maybe have the option of either inkwell, or some kind of touch screen where the keyboard appears on the screen and you can type!!, kind of dual purpose functionality I suppose, imagine, walking around Tate Modern, scrawling down notes as you walk around (infintely easier than trying to type whilst walking around) and then switch to 'touch screen' keyboard mode when sitting down and typing that report out...... I think that'd be quite handy!!
It should be really small though A5 size, but all screen......

also, let's see how it (the tablet) does in the PC world
if they sell well, apple should give it at least one try

Oh god, they better not sell well. I can not imagine them
selling at all. THey are ugly, and not very.... usefull. A laptop
is better at doing similar jobs, and a laptop has a keyboard.

being that there is no real use for a tablet, i say no. its a concept that passed its time before it was even realized. its just not feasible. itll be fun watching M$ push it, while it drives itself right into the ground. why would i want that POS when i can have a laptop and a cellphone for less money?? it just dont make no sense.
