Hello,

With ML, can I completely cut the chord to my speakers and use AirPlay for all the sounds my MacBook Pro (mid-2009) makes, not just iTunes?

I'd like to be able to hear YouTube audio through my AirPlay system, game audio, etc.

Thanks!

No, not unless you keep AirPlay display streaming on all the time - probably wonít work too well. You may want to look into this (http://rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/mac/) program. Itís not fully ML compatible yet but it will be soon.

Based on what I've seen in the forums it's indeed possible to stream audio separately from video through Mountain Lion's AirPlay function. Just change the output from your speakers (alt/option-click on the speaker in your menubar) to your AirPlay device.

But keep in mind that not every Mac will be able to use AirPlay. Your MacBook Pro is amongst the ones that aren't supported:
AirPlay Mirroring
Requires a second-generation Apple TV or later. Supports the following Mac models:

iMac (Mid 2011 or newer)
Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer)
MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer)

Thats for Airplay Mirroring though, Airplay Audio should work on other models.
It works on my MacBook Pro 2010 for example which does not support mirroring.

I currently use AirFoil. It does what you want, and it does it extremely well!

Thanks for the replies.

If it isn't supported in Mountain Lion, I'll definitely check out AirFoil :)

Great tips! But trying this on my not AirPlay supported MBA from 2010 now, and no luck. Darn! Im using the GM btw. This could well be a bug though, since its quite apparent that its just the sound coming out. And even old hw should tacke that.

Thank you! Playing all audio through the Airplay speaker using the alt/option and then clicking on the speaker! Thank you!! - So simple an yet this took me ages to figure outm without IT-Pro i would still be sitting here thinking this speaker was kinda useless! :)
