A powemac, but maybe an iMac if apple releases one that is a better deal then a PowerMac. I can almost guerantee I will be getting a PowerMac when IMB replaces moto. If I can, I am going to wait for a speed bump before I get the 970 IBM PowerMac.

After having just gone through a processor upgrade and a video card upgrade, along with the addition of a second internal HD and an internal Zip several months ago, I can't see owning a non-upgradable Mac (except for, perhaps, a TiBook.)

If portability is important to you (like if you want to take it to
a friends house, or to school) then go for the iBook. If speed,
expandibility, connectivity, and looks are more important then
go for the iMac. But don't get me wrong - the iBook will still be
plenty fast. But you will get more bang for your buck speed-wise
with the iMac. Personally, I would go for the iMac, but i have this
weird thing against laptops.

I am looking at a PowerMac probably around the next update to the product line. Hopeuflly by then the 23" Cinema Display will have dropped at least a $1000 (US) in price.

I would really go for the iBook, quite honestly. it's pretty, it's REALLY tough, and i think you will more than likely end up needing the portability for something--take it to class, etc.

i dunno if you are in a university, but even at my high school there are a few wireless base stations. at most universities they have wireless in a LOT of places. like down here at UT, you can hardly find a place on the campus where you can't get online using your account from a wireless NIC'ed laptp. something to consider. i know i will be taking my powerbook to school to get stuff done when i get it.

the iBook is also plenty fast. you are getting SUCH a good deal for the 800 MHz 12.1 incher. it has a 32MB radeon 7500. that's a REALLY good graphics processor. i wouldn't be surprised if they supported monitor spanning with it now. you can drive a 23 inch HD display with that card. and the 900 MHz G3 is kind of a pisser played off the G4, but still a decent speed. i would really go for that.

on the othere hand, the iMac is very pretty indeed, and a good deal faster, depending on what you put in it. my only gripe there is that it's not portable... unless you like carrying around a 25 lb lampshade-looking thing. your call, naturally.

on a side note, i just noticed that i have 200 posts and an average of PI (3.14) posts per day. i find that last part quite hilarious.

Have an iBook now, but need something faster with a bigger screen for using Photoshop and Cararra Studio -- as well as not having to squint anymore whilst playing DVD's.

I'm hoping Apple will release a 19" iMac by spring of 2003.

Only if they redesign the base though because a 19"
monitor on that little base would just look ludicrous.
The 17" one already looks a little silly.

AppleMacDude- -
Shadowfax described what I feel pretty well. You
should definitely get the iBook. My sister has an
older model (500 MHz) and it does everything she
needs it to do (she runs OS 9) including Photoshop,
Pagemaker, and other large programs. Get the
iBook and enjoy it ;) - especially if you can get
an educational discount.

I am currently using an iMac as my main system, and I'm looking into getting an iBook for some portable work (mostly wordprocessing etc.) so the cheapest iBook looks good to me, if I can get a portable cdburner for under the price that the next step up iBook would cost me then that is the most likely route I'll go, but of course for the little bit extra I can get a built in cdr and some other upgrade features so.......

Elle MacPhereson or Heidi Klum - might differ with me on this point - but I favor buying a model like an iPod .

i'm buying 3 G3 imacs next week...two of them my wife has been leasing and probably an EOL snow imac to use as her server. if we weren't buying a boatload of other office equipment i'd upgrade her to the g4 imac...i love the design...oh well.

now about that heidi klum model.... :D

i was thinking either powermac/imac/emac but since the new updated ibook line seems to meet my requirements...i'm going to get that instead...$2099 CDN for the low end 800 mhz model is a good price

If you have to choose between Elle MacPhereson or Heide Klum
then go with Heide Klum...

I want a Power Mac, hopefully the PPC 970 with DDR RAM will be available, & a 23" Cinema Display. Will need to purchase in the next 3 - 9 months!

I have not purchased a new Mac in almost 6 years.

I'll probably buy a new one right before I leave for college (in 2 years). Most likely a mid-range/top-end Powermac and a top-end iBook purchase. RAM and HD space maxed out of course. :p

Better start saving now! :D

You are buying a new powermac and a new iBook at the same time?

Wow, get ready to empty your wallet.... And your bank account...
and be ready to be extremely annoyed it 2 years when those 2
computers are completely obsolete. But be very happy for the 1st
couple of months.

But be very happy for the 1st couple of months.
