I have this Powermac G4 Tower:

- Dual G4 867MHz (mirrored-drive-door model)
- 1.25GB DDR RAM
- IBM Ultrastar 36GB SCSI 10k - system drive
- Atto UL2D SCSI card
- 2 120GB hard drives (one is 7200rpm, the other is 5400) in a RAID mirror
- 60GB Seagate drive for backup
- Superdrive (writes 8x to DVD+/-R, 4x to DVD+/-RW, 24x CD-R and CD-RW)
- GeForce4 MX (sucky, but it has dual outputs, DVI and ADC)

Pretty much the only thing this is missing is a wireless card, which it does not have. I will throw in a D-link 802.11b bridge that you can plug into the computer with an ethernet cord, which is what I have been using at home. It works great.

It runs quite fast for its age, due to the RAM and the SCSI hard disk. I'm selling it to finance a purchase of a new laptop for myself.

I would like to get $900 for this computer. Given the amount of upgrades it has, I feel that this is a fair price.

Shipping this thing will be expensive. I will of course insure it. It weighs about 40-50 pounds right now. I much prefer local pickup in the SF Bay Area (Silicon Valley). I am in Cupertino, I could drive a ways if you want it delivered, because I am wary of shipping it. Otherwise I will pack it the best I can and send it on it's way with insurance.

I prefer Paypal or money orders, but if you want to do local pickup then cash is perfectly fine :-P.

My email address is twblalock at gmail dot com.

Help me get a new iBook! :-P

EDIT: Price drop to $900! This is as low as I will go.

Cinema Display (1920x1200)?

Thanks!

It should, according to the Apple website. However, that is the highest resolution the card can support.

I have been looking at several sites online, and this card should be able to run it just fine.

- 2 120GB hard drives (one is 7200rpm, the other is 5400) in a RAID mirror.

Question... don't hard drives in a RAID have to be exactly identical? Won't the differing speeds mess up the array?

It is a software RAID mirror. All that is happening is that the same data is being mirrored on both drives. So in this case, the performance hit is minimal.

If it were a stripe, then the performance would suffer quite a bit, but it is not a stripe.

Bump!

I know you're new, so this is just a friendly note to let you know that bumping isn't permitted in this forum. Read the stickies at the top of the marketplace forum before you list.
-Dave :)

7. Post in your thread for any of these reasons:
-to answer questions
-to announce when the sale/trade has been made or the items are no longer available (so that other members won't continue to post or contact you)
-to announce that the price has changed
-to announce other changes in the items, availability, or offer
-to respond to other comments
Otherwise, wait for responses and accept that you may or may not get them. As in all threads, "bump" posts (those that simply bring your thread to the top of the New Posts list) are not permitted because they are unfair to other members (spam).

But everybody else bumps and nobody says ANYTHING. Stop picking on him.

Dude, I wasn't picking on him. I was actually being polite since most people apparently don't read the stickies. Chill.

Sorry, I am used to being able to bump and I wasn't aware of that rule in this forum.

Does anyone have comments on price? I haven't sold a Mac before and I don't really know what to ask for it.

I think that $1000 is a bit high... if you think about it, that's 3 Minis. You can get some serious power out of 3 Minis.

You might want to look into selling the computer in separate pieces. The SCSI controller card with a hard drive, etc, and not all-in-one. Some people may not want the SCSI card but a hard drive on the ATA bus is fine with dual 1GHz CPUs.

I actually lowered the price to $900, but I wasn't able to edit the subject line on the post.

I feel that the price is justified because if you bought a stock Dual 867 and put all the parts in it necessary to make it like this one, you would actually be spending more than I am asking for.

I decided to list this on eBay, and if it doesn't sell there then I will seriously consider selling the parts.

If anyone would like to make an offer on certain parts of the machine, then let me know and if I decide to sell it as parts I will get back to you.

This seems like a cool forum, I registered just to sell this Mac but I might stick around :-P
