Guys, I was wondering the following backup solution for myself.

I have this huge online hosting account where I can pretty much upload anything I want;
I have a 100/100Mb internet cable connection with no traffic limit.

What I need is an application (maybe more than one) that makes the following:

1. Connect via sFTP connection to that online storage space for uploading of the backup files;
2. Encryption of the files before uploading via internet;
3. Automatic backing up of the files when they are modified or new files are created (Dropbox style)
4. Optional: Would be cool to have that online storage drive show up on Finder has a normal external HDD that is connect via USB to my MacBook.

Is any of this remotely possible and is there software capable of such for the Mac?

Thanks!

Since you can connect to your account via sftp, one option would be to install OS X Fuse and then the SSHFS file system for it. Once you have that set up, you should be able to mount your hosted storage as if it were a disk. Then you can tell Time Machine to back up to it, or choose some other backup software as you see fit. Everything will run through SSH to the remote server, so you'll be covered for encryption purposes.

Thank you very much!

I will have a look at that option you refer tomorrow and see if it works! Thanks!

Sesquipedalian, do I need MacFusion as well?

I just installed Fuse and SSHFS but there's no graphical interface there to connect to a remote server.

Thanks for the help!
