hi! i want to create a bootable drive with ML, but it seems it accepts only dvd and pen drives. i want to do it with an external hd because i dont have a 8gb pen drive. is there a way to "convert" an usb hdd to a pen drive??? in fact, why those two are considered "different" from osx??

Do it manually.
Step 1. Partition your HDD so that a partition has 8 gigs of space. Name it Mountain Lion Boot Drive for now.

Then follow the DIY instructions here.

The app will not partition an external drive for you. That is why you had issues.

Because 4,37gb is greater than 4gb. Most things digital increment in factors of 2. I've personnally never seen a 5gb, 6gb, or even 7gb USB stick. So . . . the smallest USB drive that can accommodate the OS is 8gb.

yes sorry! i confused 4,37 with dvd capacity :p
