Help with enlarging emoji in the Messages app

Here's a screenshot of two sad faces, the first is an emoji and the second is the regular iChat emoticon.

I think it's pretty obvious that the emoji should be much larger; at the current size they're barely visible. Any idea how to enlarge them?
