My new MBA has the LG display.

I typed the following into the terminal:

Code:
ioreg -lw0 | grep IODisplayEDID | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6

I got the following output:
Code:
LP133WP1-TJA3
Color LCD

With the LP prefix, this determines that I have the LG display. I found this tutorial:

http://osxdaily.com/2011/10/30/how-...lay-in-a-macbook-air-and-make-it-look-better/

And installed the MacRumors LG color profile. I must say the colors do look better, especially the blacks.

Thanks to the forum.

I was reading that Mountain Lion corrected this.

Actually, I don't find the colors better with the MacRumors profile. It just becomes much darker so the colors seem to get more saturated. So if you pay attetion to the blacks, you'll notice there's a big clipping.

Thank you so much for posting this. I just bought my MBA and couldn't stand the display... was about to return it and get a MBP instead. But I saw thread and the colors are a lot better. It doesn't hurt my eyes anymore.

This profile absolutely sucks for my 2012 LG display

How many shades of gray can you see on Lagom's test grid?

http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/all_tests.php#blacktest.png

For me, most just became black, it's noticeable when for example watching a movie, in dark scenes I can't see much detail at all.

But all displays are different. That calibration didn't fit my screen, that's all I can say. One might have to try a lot of calibration files if there's no access to a HW calibrator to do a proper one.

jmgag03's profile helped me the most. Using it until I get around doing a proper HW calibration myself.

Why would you post that test?! Apparently my samsung display is terrible haha. I couldn't see the top row of the boxes, and scanned through the other tests and the results weren't good.

Not seeing the top row subjectively isn't thaat bad though ;) With the default LG color profile I can't see the first 14 boxes! With jmgag03's profile I can see box 5, barely.

My attempt at calibration - 2012 Air 11" LG display

Attached is the profile I've settled with - calibrated using a Spyder by myself.. Hope this helps.
