Using a MBA running ML and would like to regain the approximately 4 GB of
SSD space these items permanently claim.

Feel I won't need the protection these two provide. But willing to listen to
reasonable counter points of view.

Is just inactivating hibernate sufficient to release the SSD space?

Thanks in advance.

Yep. A luxury I can do without on a 128GB SSD.

Sorry. Just to be sure. Hibernation is the setting you disable and sleepimage is the file where hibernation data would be stored, right? Or are they separate functionalities?

Noob here, what protection do the provide? Would like the extra space but if it means my MacBook may get damaged then I might not do it.

Problem is that sleepimage always returns when cycle off/on of the MBA. This
I know from experience.

So the reduction of 4 GB of SSD space is lost when power down the MBA. Not
so if always in sleep, but that is not realistic for my style of use.
