If I close the lid in my macbook air 2012, will my downloads keep going? Should the mba keep plugged in to the magsafe or do the downloads occur even if running from battery?

I heard that Mountain Lion does not keep downloading stuff anymore when the computer sleep.

What kind of downloads do you mean?

If you have power nap on it is supposed to download system updates while in sleep mode. Other than that though, downloads like a video or something you are downloading are going to stop when you put the system asleep.

I heard it was possible in Lion to keep downloading files (elsewhere). The OS X would wait until download finishes to then sleep.

My question is that if it's still possible to do and if I close the lid my Macbook will sleep, even if I'm downloading a file. If so, is there a way to keep downloading files and the system automatically sleeps even if the lid is already closed?

I have never heard of a way to do that. If you close the lid all activity stops and the system sleeps.

thanks, I've take a look at it.
I read that attaching my macbook to a external display and closing its lid won't stop its activity. Is that true? "clamshell mode".

That is correct. In clamshell mode the machine is not asleep and everything will continue to work normally.

I will plug my macbook air into an old display and let it downloading things with the lid closed (to avoid excessive dust).
Thanks for your help :)
