I still want to be able to send the visualizer output to the desktop!!!

Other than that, I'd like to see AAC support.

Not a feature really, but, I want it to use less CPU time. At the moment it is too high I think.

I second that, especially in the visualiser.

It's only an mp3 player for gosh sakes. :-) Yeah.. I use it, its the best, but its not a big deal IMO.

How about Apple buys native instruments and gives in Reaktor for OS X in January? Now THAT would be good audio software! hehe

springscansing probably knows more than I do about it, so I won't bother trying to answer.

But I was also going to suggest that iTunes adopt a more usefull encoding technology, as the continuously reechoed LAME encoding technology, as some people seem to be losing a lot of extreme frequencies when encoding.

Also, a directory playlist feature would be pretty cool, since I have playlist for many albums, some from the same band and such.

Third, I would like to have some sort of option to reduce the font size used for iTunes. I know there is a small and large option, but small is still too large for me. Even 3rd PAs, such as TinkerTool, can't seem to adjust the font used for iTunes.

Finally, the volume output thing, where the song and track are listed (click the triangle to see it), needs to be adjusted a little. I would like responses to sudden jumps of volume for the individual frequencies to be accelerated more, sort of like SoundJam. And, if Apple has any time, I would like to view the output in shades and not multiple lines, and possibly custom chosen colors. :)

Other than that, I find MPEG-4 audio technology to be a primary goal.

Oh, and one more thing. I'd like my old 5GB iPod to be able to read and play those compressed files. :)

Better tag editing, file handling, and library support.

If I have 100 songs whose titles are 12. Somesong.mp3, I want iTunes to be able to turn the title into Somesong, dunmping the mp3, and dropping the 12 into the track number field. MP3 Rage is a help, but it would be nice to do all this in one app.

Also, if you've ever answered yes to 'The tracks you are deleting are blah blah blah...would you like to move them to the trash' accidentally, they are not moved to the trash. They are moved either to a system trash, or deleted. I would like the behavior to be that they are indeeed moved into the users's trash.

Additionally, I would like the library to sort out missing files in a group. If you delete MP3s from you drive , they stay in the library until you delete them (ungrouped) by hand...big pain in the arse.

easy ID3 tag editing and more burning options (like toast.) anything they add to it is welcome though, and having the rendezvoux support would really put apple ahead of the game.

I said Randezvous support, although AAC support
would be really nice. I would love to compress my
7 GB of songs (~2,100) into a smaller size. My
HD is only 30 gigs. It will run out eventually :D.
Still, it would be nice to listen to all my songs on
my g4, while on my computer.

Actually, I'd like

1) Karaoke feature ... It's on other apps like Audion, if I'm not mistaken.
2) Transparency ... I'd like the window (when small) stay on top with adjustable transparency like "clock" app. Kinda like X-Tunes, but it's going to be one of the modes on iTunes itself. Also, it'd be nice to have an option *not* to see it on screen (to save the screen space) when playing, but pops up when change is made (e.g song1 ends and song2 starts) with that set transparency (and again, small screen mode thingie) on the lower left corner or corner of your choice.

Is that too much to ask? ;)

For the last freakin time, making .mp3 files into AAC files is stupid and will make them sound even worse.

How about an alarm clock that would begin playing from a playlist that you specify?
Another thing that would be interesting is an internet radio function that would be integrated with .Mac services. I would have it so that if you were a non-.Mac member you would be able to listen to radio stations that .Mac members have set up. Only .Mac members would be able to set up a radio station and would have their station advertized over .Mac. Or they could include functionality with Live 365 or Shoutcast.
Another thing that I would want to be able to change is the visualizer where the title of the song is. I would like the ability to be able to modify the color and bars to my liking similar to what Winamp does.

Just some wishful thinking.

An large $5/month or so set of internet radio stations, similar to MusicMatch Radio but done right. Ad free, able to skip up to 4 or so songs, and have the user be able to make a play list of same-like bands. For example make a list with Fuel and 3 Doors Down, you should hear other bands like Staind and Creed but not Limp Bizkit and other rap-rock like bands which is the way MusicMatch ends up sounding like.

AAC/mpeg4 might be cool but I don't know if I want to redo all my CD's. Would have to sound a whole lot better than MP3, which I doubt, and it would take awhile to redo it all.

iTunes is pretty much flawless in my eyes, I haven't come across anything that I think should be changed or fixed. Hopefully if Apple does add a new feature it will be something worth it and not bloat.

all i want is for iTunes to be able to read mp3 CD's, like it does with audio CD's.

adding all the songs from a CD manually is just annoying...

Rendezvous is a given for the next update (demonstrated at MWNY and Paris Expo), thus it didn't get my vote.

It's all about AAC support, as long as the iPod is updated as well. I will gladly re-rip my songs to get that smaller file size and keep the quality. :)

I want the ability to control itunes from any program, like x-tunes. Apple + space(or anything you set) brings up a menu, like the volume up/down, then left arrow, or right arrow for next/prev song, or you can use the mouse to select the controls on screen. X-tunes is awesome, as it can be used for quick control of your music from any application.

Also, less CPU time would be nice

The reason iTunes doesn't incorparate AAC is because the format doesn't have any ID3 Tags. All the song info is stored in the iTunes music library for them and if you burn those files to CD, other computers won't recognise the names of the songs.

iTunes ALLREADY supports AAC, it just doesn't rip AAC's but you can do that in Quicktime Player then add them to the library. You can get a script that does this at www.malcolmadams.com/itunes/ (http://www.malcolmadams.com/itunes/) . But I would love it if iTunes could rip AAC's. And that transparency idea is wicked. The little window SHOULD be transparent.

mp3 cd's play just fine for me..

I'd like to see widget/skins for iTunes..

I don't want some crappy, red-edit hack color crap either. Full-fledged skins. If they could implement them similar to Audion, I would be amazed.

I want to be able to make smart playlists that are composed of other playlists and/or can specify several criteria and proportions, like '50 songs from my ambient-techno playlist, 100 songs that are rated 4-5 stars, and 20 songs that haven't been played in the last three months."

I have to say that I simply love my iTunes/iPod combination. Sure, there are some tweaks here and there, but for the most part, this is some of my favorite technology ever. For the guy who stated that iTunes is just an MP3 player...I think you either entirely miss the point of this technology or you really don't care about music that much.

Smart playlists are so cool, it has totally increased the value of my music. To have my entire music collection on my computer, fully organized and rated, has changed my music listening habits completely. To be able to listen to my 4+ rated songs as a single mix, spanning my entire music collection, is a surreal experience.

The pursuit of my life is joy. Music provides a great deal of that joy. This technology has increased the joy I gain from my personal collection of music, thus increasing the overall joy in my life. I could go on and on about how important this technology is to me, but then I'd begin to sound religious and you'd all get bored. ;-)

I can't think of any major features that iTunes is missing. iPod could be added to, improved in several ways, but Apple has done both of these things right.

Not really. It won't be able to make them sound better - obviously
but it can make them stay basically the same quality, at a much
smaller file size. Converting mp3's to AAC files isn't stupid.

I would like to see more options as to how iTunes names imported tracks. To simply plop it into a folder named for the cd title is silly.

I would like the option to have it automatically name a song "The Beatles - Love.mp3" as opposed to "Love.mp3".

Before I discovered MP3 Rage it was hell renaming all those mp3s! =)

It's terrible when listening to a mixed CD and in between tracks (which are supposed to play one after the other with no breaks) you hear the half second gap. Anyone who listens to electronic music knows what i'm talking about. I've tried using the crossfader but setting it to 'zero' still doesn't do it. :( should be a simple fix, right?????

Is iTunes a Carbon or Cocoa app?

If it is a Carbon app, then to heck with all these features...just make it a Cocoa app!
